Summary: when we dig in the wells of salvation we embark on a thankful heart, amazing grace, and God's strength.
Wells of Salvation Isaiah 12
1. Some things going on in today’s reading
• These oracles or visions are directed at Israel and their neighbors. Assyria, there is the announcement of unfaithfulness, judgment and destruction;
• God also announces salvation, deliverance and God’s steadfast love for the chosen people.
• The Prophet Isaiah lived during a period of deep division and profound uncertainty in Israelite history, centered around a military conflict
• The Prophets death is uncertain but assumed according to Hebrews 7 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— scholars believe Isaiah was sawed into
2. Even though anger is present dig deeper in the well
• LORD, I will praise You; though You were angry with me: The worshipper decides to praise the LORD, even though he has felt the LORD’s anger against him.
• In the wells of salvation it’s important to know when were chastened God comforts me the Prophet says, When God disciplines us, He does so as a perfect parent, knowing perfectly how to comfort us after we have been chastened. Sometimes, like rebellious children, we refuse the comfort of God after discipline, but that is always our fault, not His.
• When the LORD is our strength, it means that He is our resource, He is our refuge. We look to Him for our needs and are never unsatisfied.
•
3. In those wells of salvation we find a Thankful Heart
• Twice in this passage, Isaiah puts words of thanksgiving into the mouths of God's exiled but returning people. "You will say in that day: I will give thanks to you, O LORD" (v. 1). "Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name" (v. 4).
• Our response to God's saving grace is thanksgiving.
• We offer thanks to God because we know we could never have done for ourselves what God has done for us.
•
4. The Deeper we dig in God we will find God’s Grace
• When we hit rock bottom there we find God’s Amazing Grace .
• "Though you were angry with me," the people will say to God when they have bottomed out, "your anger turned away and you comforted me" (v. 1).
• God forgives us no matter what we have done No matter how deep our sin God’s grace is deeper
5. The father we dig we find Gods Strength
• In the wells of salvation is the strength of God . "Surely God is my salvation," the people will say. "I will trust in him and not be afraid for the LORD God is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation" (v. 2).
• Perhaps one the most repeated phrases in the bible is “Don’t Be Afraid”
• The more we dig we discover the Joy of Worship “Sing praises to the LORD for he has done gloriously," Isaiah proclaims, "let this be known in all the earth. Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel" (v. 6).
6. Finally, In those wells of salvation when we start digging we discover a thankful heart, we find God’s amazing grace, we discover Gods strength, but don’t forget we got to draw out the water
• You will draw water: This means there is something for us to do. God doesn’t meet our needs as we sit in passive inactivity. We must reach out and draw what He has provided; it is His water, His well, His rope, and His bucket that we draw with. Lets dig deep!
