Summary: Psalm 24 speaks of the ascension of Christ. It is known as the Psalm of the crown.

Roman Catholicism teaches many falsehoods. The Assumption of Mary is one. Rome teaches that Mary ascended up into heaven in the same way that Jesus did. We refute this lie. Scripture nowhere records that this was Mary’s experience. But scripture does record the fact of Christ’s ascension.

Psalm 24 points forward to:

1. HIS PASSION

"Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD?"

Christ ascended to heaven but first He had to ascend to Calvary. Calvary is a hill rather than a mountain.

a) It was a violent passion.

b) It was a vicarious passion.

2. HIS PURITY

"He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully".

a) Jesus had pure hands - His outward life.

b) Jesus had a pure heart - His inner life.

3. HIS PASSAGE

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in".

a) His ascension was miraculous.

It was a literal ascension. Christ was not subject to the law of gravity.

a) His ascension was glorious.

What a welcome the Saviour received when He arrived back in heaven! The pearly gates were opened for Him. Will they be opened for you?

Love divine, so great and wondrous,

Deep and mighty, pure, sublime!

Coming from the heart of Jesus,

Just the same through tests of time.

He the pearly gates will open,

So that I may enter in;

For He purchased my redemption

And forgave me all my sin.
