Wedding Vows

He got Israel out Egypt, now He has to get Egypt out of Israel.

They had taken up Egypt’s traditions, their idol worship, their way of thinking!

He going to have a wedding, When He refers to Israel, He refers to Israel as His bride, when Israel commits Idolatry, God calls it Adultery .

Hosea 1:2 When the Lord first began speaking to Israel through Hosea, he said to him, “Go and marry a prostitute, so that some of her children will be conceived in prostitution. This will illustrate how Israel has acted like a prostitute by turning against the Lord and worshiping other gods.”

Exodus 6:7-I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Genesis 24:67-Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife…same word!

The elements of a Jewish wedding.

Mikveh-The bride to be takes a bath to purify herself for her husband, when Moses brings the people to Mt Sinai the first thing God tells them to do is to sanctify and cleanse themselves. Exodus 19:10

Chuppah-Is a canopy, in the Jewish mind it meant the covering of God’s wings, God’s arms, the bride and groom stand under that protective covering, and when Israel stood at Mt. Sinai under the God’s glory cloud. Exodus 19:16

Ketuba-Marriage contract and in it they exchange vows, just like we do in our marriage ceremony.

The Ten Commandments for all it’s moral uses (It is how sociality establishes it‘s morals and conduct), but from God’s point of view the Ten Commandments are wedding vows!

This is God saying, “I Love You!” “I Still Love You!” “Do You Love Me?”

1-No Other gods before Me….No Other Lovers!

2-You Shall Not Make For Yourself A Carved Image…No Pictures Of Another Lover!

3-You Shall Not Take The Name Of The Lord Your God In Vain….Keep My Name Sacred, He Is Given Them His Name….(You don’t want your spouse ruining your name!)

4-Remember The Sabbath….Date Night…(Time to spend together without distractions).

5-10-The Rest Of The Commandments Deal With Treating His Family Right…When you marry into a family, that family becomes a part of you!

(Honor Your Father And Mother…How you treat your family reflects on our relationship!)

The New Testament teaching when Jesus declared that He is the bridegroom and the church is His bride, is just God clarifying again and again that He Loves Us and That He Wants To Be With Us!
