VI. TITLE:

We Can Do Greater Things

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: Apostle John

B. Place of Writing: Rome

C. Date of Writing: prior A.D. 63

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. The LORD JESUS CHRIST's Words are our guarantee

"I tell you the truth"

Truth or verily was repeated twice, came from the Greek word:"amen" meaning firm, trustworthy, surely, verily. The LORD JESUS CHRIST doesn't lie much more He was repeating it, so He really mean it. There's about 152 matches of this greek word amen in the New Testament, used often to emphasize truth or a concluding remark. Real sin is if we reject the LORD JESUS CHRIST, real repentance or salvation can only come from the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Acts 4:9-12 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed?

Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.

For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’

There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

B. Those who believe on the LORD JESUS CHRIST

"anyone who believes in me"

Acts 16:31 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

Romans 3:22 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

Romans 10:9-10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Galatians 3:22 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.

1. GOD is no respecter of persons, the requirement is only to believe in the LORD JESUS CHRIST and salvation is guaranteed.

C. We will do what CHRIST have done and even greater things

"will do the same works I have done, and even greater works,"

More, greater or larger are used in the same way meaning larger, elder, greater used comparatively.

Acts 2:41 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

Acts 4:4 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of believers now totaled about 5,000 men, not counting women and children.

- The LORD JESUS have fed 4,000 men and 5,000 men in separate events yet in the time of the apostles, 3000 got saved, spiritual is better or GREATER than physical benefits.

Acts 5:15 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by.

- The LORD JESUS CHRIST need to touch persons or His garment at least needed to be touched to be healed but in the time of Peter, his shadow is enough.

Acts 6:7 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

- The LORD JESUS CHRIST's time, the priests are ashamed to come out to testify to their faith while in the apostles's time, the priests are active in their faith.

D. Because the LORD JESUS CHRIST will go to the Father

"because I am going to be with the Father"

1. The LORD JESUS CHRIST does everything we ask in His Name (John 14:13-14)
