We are Salt and Light 3-3-02

Mat 5:13-16 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

You are the salt of the Earth.

Fact: Salt seasoning / preservative / chemical

When exposed to the air, rain sun. It becomes useless and has no flavor.

If a seasoning does not enhance the flavor what is its value?

If a Christian makes little effort in his Christianity, What value does he have for God? We are to be effective and enhance the world around us.

A Christian should not blend into society like a tree in a forest making them self undistinguishable.

To stand out from the crowd and be noticed / looked upon as exceptional, unique

How bland would life be with out the seasonings and spices?

Salt brings out the flavor, Like us to bring out the best in people, to enhance their lives.

Like salt our witness need to be cared for Guarded from the elements of the WORLD AND SIN. But not buried and hidden.

Worldly ways / the earthly environment = SIN

TO Preserve Us we have Jesus….

Salt that is no good it is waste thrown out and trampled upon.

WE are to be the LIGHT of the WORLD

Can you hide your Christianity? / Even when you are somewhere you shouldn’t be you can’t hide it. You are always called out and noticed , You act different.

So we try to hide it under a basket but through no avail the light seeps our though the Cracks and you light is exposed.

Can a city in the dark hide with one light lit at night. WWII air raids? The slightest light from above can be seen.

Believers become the light of the Christianity in the social system of men.

JN 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

We walk in the Light and not in darkness….

We hide our light by: (life pp bible)

1 being quiet when we should speak

2 going along with the crowd

3 denying the light

4 letting sin dim our light

5 not explaining or exposing the light to others

6 ignoring the needs of others

There is a mighty beacon on the top of a LIGHTHOUSE

It guides ships in to a safe Harbor

But there is a Light house Keeper and that is you to maintain the light

Be a beacon of truth. Don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world. The need you.

Remember: The purpose of all good works among men is to glorify our heavenly father

Enhance your lives and be a guiding light to the lost in a dying world…
