Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores the profound truth and transformative power of knowing Christ, urging believers to seek a deeper relationship with Him.
Well, good morning, dear friends. Isn't it a blessing to gather in God's house today? As we gather together, let's remember that we are not mere spectators, but active participants in this grand symphony of faith. We are here to seek Him, to know Him, and to be known by Him.
Today, we will be turning our hearts and minds to the Book of Colossians, specifically Colossians 1:15-19. This passage, written by the apostle Paul, is a beautiful hymn of praise to our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Let's read together:
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominities or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell."
What a powerful declaration of who Christ is and what He has done! In these verses, we see the purpose found in Him, the power of His presence, and our pilgrimage out of darkness.
In the passage we read, we see that all things were created through Christ and for Christ. This tells us that our very existence is tied to Him. We were not created by chance or as an afterthought. We were created intentionally, purposefully, by Christ and for Christ. This means that our lives have meaning and purpose because we were created by the One who is the epitome of purpose and meaning.
This truth can transform how we view our lives: Instead of seeing our lives as a series of random events, we can see them as part of a grand design, a beautiful tapestry woven together by the Master Weaver. Each thread, each color, each knot has a purpose. Nothing is wasted. Nothing is meaningless. Everything has a purpose, and that purpose is found in Christ.
What does it mean to find our purpose in Christ?: It means that our ultimate aim in life is to glorify Him and to make Him known. It means that our lives are not about us, but about Him. It means that we find our worth, our identity, our significance not in what we do or what we have, but in who we are in Christ.
A shift from how the world views purpose: The world tells us that our purpose is found in our achievements, our possessions, our status. But the Bible tells us that our purpose is found in Christ. Our purpose is not to make a name for ourselves, but to make His name known. Our purpose is not to accumulate wealth, but to accumulate treasures in heaven. Our purpose is not to seek our own glory, but to seek His glory.
Implications for how we live our lives: If our purpose is found in Christ, then our lives should be lived for Him. This means that our decisions, our actions, our words should be guided by His Word and His Spirit. It means that we should seek to please Him in all that we do. It means that we should strive to become more like Him each day.
How can we live for Christ?: How can we fulfill our purpose in Him? The answer is found in the passage we read. It says that "in Him all things consist." This means that Christ is not only the source of our purpose, but also the sustainer of our purpose. He gives us the strength, the wisdom, the grace we need to fulfill our purpose in Him.
