WE ARE BLESSED WHEN WE READ, HEAR AND KEEP THE WORD OF GOD!

In this sermon outline we point out blessings in reading, hearing and doing the Word of God! God wants to bless His people but we must do and exert ourselves to receive what He has already promised and desires to give us.

Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

I. John was given a message that Jesus wanted the Church to receive!

1. Revelation is a book of past and future.

2. It is a book of blessings.

a. It also gives us a 3 fold method to receive the blessings of God

II. We are first blessed when we READ THE WORD OF GOD!

1. Everyone would like blessings.

2. Why are we blessed when we read the Bible?

a. When we read the Word we are reading the Will of God.

b. We are blessed when we read the Word as it is the Will of God for our lives.

c. Many times when I am asked to pray for someone to know the Will of God for their lives, I tell them to Read the Bible. It is God's perfect Will for them. The Will of God is His Word. His Word is His Will.

3. God wants to bless us now. "for the time is at hand."

4. God is the God of the NOW! He told Moses He was the 'I AM" not the I was or what I am going to be, but , the Great I AM! Mal. 3:6, Heb 13:8

III. We are blessed when we hear the Word of God!.

1. Why? Romans 10:17 give us the answer, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

a. Without faith we can not please God when we approach Him. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

b. I have the Bible on a DVD and listen to it when I am in my office working. I used to play a tape at my bed side when I would go to sleep. I always slept better after falling asleep with the Word playing. I believe the Word is alive and even blessed me in my sleep. Blessed is he that hears the Word.

IV. Then perhaps the most important we must 'Keep the Word'.

1. How do we keep the Word?

a. We keep it first in our heart. Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

b. Then we must do the Word. James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

c. Faith can only be seen when it is in action. Faith is dead if it is not active. James 2:17-18 (KJV) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

d. Everyone I have ever seen receiving from the promises of God have always done these 3 things They have asked, believed they received and then put their faith in action. For salvation, they received Christ as Saviour. They confessed and served Him. It is needed for all our requests. ASK, BELIEVE AND PUT FAITH (WORD) INTO ACTION!

V. I love the words to Trust and Obey

1. When we walk with the Lord

in the light of his word,

what a glory he sheds on our way!

While we do his good will,

he abides with us still,

and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain: Trust and obey, for there's no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a burden we bear,

not a sorrow we share,

but our toil he doth richly repay;

not a grief or a loss,

not a frown or a cross,

but is blest if we trust and obey.

3. But we never can prove

the delights of his love

until all on the altar we lay;

for the favor he shows,

for the joy he bestows,

are for them who will trust and obey.

4. Then in fellowship sweet

we will sit at his feet,

or we'll walk by his side in the way;

what he says we will do,

where he sends we will go;

never fear, only trust and obey.

Refrain: Trust and obey, for there's no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
