Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon encourages embracing the challenges of Christian faith, seeking Christ's healing power, and finding hope and peace in our faith amidst difficulties.
Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ. It is a blessing to be here with you all, gathered in the house of our Lord. Today, we gather to seek solace, to seek healing, and to seek Christ.
As we gather here, I am reminded of a quote from G.K. Chesterton. He once said, "The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried." My friends, today we will not leave it untried. We will embrace the difficult, and we will find hope in it.
Let us turn to the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 8, verses 43 to 48:
"And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 'Who touched me?' Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, 'Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.' But Jesus said, 'Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.' Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'"
Let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day, for the opportunity to gather here and seek your wisdom. We pray that you open our hearts and minds to your word. May we, like the woman in the scripture, find healing and peace in our faith in you. Guide us, Lord, as we seek to understand and apply your teachings in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
In the passage we read from Luke, we find a woman who had been suffering for twelve years. She had been to many doctors, tried many treatments, but nothing had worked. She was desperate, she was hopeless. But then she heard about Jesus. She heard about the miracles He had performed, the people He had healed. And she thought to herself, "If I can just touch His cloak, I will be healed."
This woman was suffering physically, but she was also suffering emotionally and spiritually. She was worried, she was scared, she was filled with anxiety. But when she reached out and touched Jesus' cloak, all of that changed. Her physical ailment was healed, yes, but so were her worries and fears. She found peace, she found comfort, she found hope.
This is the power of Christ. He doesn't just heal our physical ailments, He heals our worries and fears as well. He brings us peace and comfort, He gives us hope. When we reach out to Him, when we put our faith in Him, He responds with love and compassion. He takes our worries and fears and replaces them with peace and hope.
Now, let's look at this idea from a few different angles. First, let's consider the woman's action. She reached out and touched Jesus' cloak. This was a bold move, a risky move. She was in a crowd, she was considered unclean because of her condition, she could have been punished for her actions. But she did it anyway. Why? Because she had faith. She believed that Jesus could heal her, and she was willing to take a risk to make that happen.
This is a powerful lesson for us. Sometimes, reaching out to Jesus requires us to take a risk. It requires us to step out of our comfort zone, to do something we're not sure about. But when we do, when we take that leap of faith, we find healing and peace. We find that our worries and fears are replaced with hope and comfort.
Second, let's consider Jesus' reaction. He didn't scold the woman for touching Him. He didn't punish her for her boldness. Instead, He commended her for her faith. He acknowledged her suffering, He validated her feelings, and He healed her. This shows us that Jesus is not a distant, judgmental figure. He is a loving, compassionate Savior who wants to heal us, who wants to take away our worries and fears.
Third, let's consider the woman's response. After she was healed, she didn't just walk away. She fell at Jesus' feet and thanked Him. She acknowledged His power, His compassion, His love. This is a reminder for us to do the same. When Jesus heals us, when He takes away our worries and fears, we should respond with gratitude. We should acknowledge His power and love, and we should share our story with others.
Finally, let's consider the impact of this event. The woman was healed, yes, but so were the people around her. They saw the power of Jesus, they saw His compassion and love. They saw a woman who was suffering, who was filled with worry and fear, find healing and peace. This is a reminder for us that our healing, our peace, can have a ripple effect. When we find peace and comfort in Jesus, we can share that with others. We can show them the power of Christ, we can show them that He can heal their worries and fears as well.
As we continue to reflect on the story of the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years, we find ourselves drawn to the moment she reached out and touched Jesus' cloak ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
