Watch What You See

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” –Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Our discussion is very much close to the quote of Antoine de Saint-Exupery on his book The Little Prince. Today, we are posed with the question of seeing. If for example God will remove 4 out 5 of your senses and will keep your sight, what are the things that you will see? Who would you continue pleasing? What are the things that you would choose to see? What are you blinded of?

If we look into Matthew 6: 22-23, the verse says,

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”

This verse may be confusing at first, but if you will look closely, it shows 4 equations:

1. Eye = This is the lamp of the body

2. Clear eye = States that your whole body is full of light

3. Bad eye = Defines that your whole body is full of darkness

4. If light in you is darkness = Describes that you are in great darkness

Still confused? Let’s look into two more verses from the book of Matthew.

Matthew 6:19-21 tells us,

“Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

This verse tells us that as Christians, we should watch our treasures. Stop saving up too much for your treasures here on Earth. Instead, watch over and accumulate treasures in Heaven.

Matthew 6:24 says,

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

This verse is telling us to watch over our choices. You can’t serve both God and money. You only need to choose one.

So what is God telling us? Simple. If we scan Matthew 6: 22-23 again, we will realize that God genuinely wants us to watch what we desire. All our lives, we seek for acceptance, love and stability. But for whom are we doing this?

We should always remember to do everything for the glory of God. It may be very difficult to set our priorities straight, but if we seek God, He will deliver and provide.

Matthew 6:33 tells us to “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all the treasures will be added unto you.”

1. What are your objectives for working? What are you pursuing?

2. What are your ambitions?

3. Who are you trying to please?

Can you sincerely say that your eyes are clear?
