Summary: We Are Told To Beware Of Dogs. We are being warned about evil workers and false teachers. The Dogs in our text are men who are led by an evil spirit and not the Holy Spirit.

This message did not originate with me. I heard an old black preacher deliver it many years ago. I think his name was Dr. S. M. Lockrage, but I'm not sure.

We Are Told In Our Text To Beware Of Dogs. We are being warned about evil workers and false teachers.

2 Thessalonians 3:11-15 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

Romans 16:17,18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Beware - blepete = To keep your eye on, so as to be cautious of.

Dogs - koo'-ohn = a dog, a hound – “the dogs.” In the context it is a reference to those impure persons "of whom I have told you often" (Phil 3:18-19); "the abominable" (Rev 21:8; 22:15; Matt 7:6; 15:26-27; The Pagan in spirit; Titus 1:15-16): "dogs" in filthiness and snarling (Deut 23:18; Ps 22:16,20; 59:6,14-15; 2 Peter 2:22).

Evil workers - kak-os'; intrinsically worthless; subjectively depraved, objectively injurious.

Concision - katatomeen = the mutilation.

The Dogs in our text are men who are led by an evil spirit and not the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 56:10-11 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

I. THE BIBLE USES ANIMALS TO RELATE THE NATURE OF PERSONS: Jesus was lamb-like in humility; but He is lion-like in power; He is Serpent like in saving power. Some folks are dog like in nature. Some folks are cunning and sly like a fox. Jesus called Herod a fox in Luke 13:32. John the Baptist called the Pharisees vipers in Matt.3:7. Paul calls them dogs.

THE ALLEY STRAY – The alley dog always have their head in the garbage can. Always getting into filth and dirt. In the alley in their thinking and gossiping; they glory in the bad and spite the good. We are to feed on higher things that garbage. He is generally a coward, he follows the crowd, and won't take a stand. He retends to be neutral until he is able to see which way his crowd is going.

2 Peter 2:22 “But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again.” WATCH THAT DOG!

THE MUTT - No pedigree; no particular breed! He’s A Sooner – sooner one thing as another. No loyalty to the church, the pastor, our doctrine. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE BULL DOG - Bad fellows, always boasting about what they can do or would. But are almost always found lounging. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE BIRD DOG - Pointers and Setters. Pointers don't kill the point them out (Judas was a pointer). Setters want to set on everything the church has. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE POODLE - Parlor dog needs special attention, they look good, but needs special food. They whine if the don’t get special attention. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE COON DOG - Roams around at night, living in sin. The good ole' boy kinda dog. Coon dogs always look like they've been beat with an ugly stick. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE BLOOD HOUND - Always tracking someone or something down, trying to uncover some scandal in someone else’s life. If they are asked and don't know, they'll find out. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE MAD DOG - He's crazy; His madness is contagious. He's mad and is not satisfied until everyone else is. WATCH THAT DOG!

THE CHOW DOG – The Chow is a handsome animal, but he has a black tongue. He’s playful as a pup, but when he is old he becomes treacherous. Treachery is man's worst vice, treachery is the compound of cowardice and deceit. Treachery destroys mutual comfort and security. Treachery is a cancer that eats away at love and peace. Treachery is exalts the greatest traitor. Treachery will stop a church from singing, Tithers from giving, Teachers from teaching, Musicians from playing, People from growing, Soul winners from sowing. It will quench the Holy Spirit and kill the church. WATCH THAT DOG!
