The main point of this sermon is that God uses our brokenness to lead us back to Him, promising to heal and restore us when we respond to His call for repentance.
Hello, church family! Isn’t it wonderful to gather here today in fellowship, under God’s unending grace? We're going to dive deep into the Word of God, specifically into the book of Hosea, chapter 6 verse 1. It says, "Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind our wounds." What a powerful promise we find in these words! God’s grace is unfailing, and even when we stray, His call to repentance is a promise of restoration.
God's unfailing grace is an overarching theme that we encounter throughout the Bible, and it's a concept that we, as believers, should hold dear to our hearts. It's the divine favor that God bestows upon us, even when we are undeserving. It's the love and mercy given to us by God because He desires us to have it, not because of anything we have done to earn it. This is the grace that we find in the book of Hosea, where God, despite the rebellion and unfaithfulness of His people, promises to heal and restore them.
A. The grace of God is unfailing because it is not dependent on us, but on Him. It is rooted in His character, His love, and His mercy. It is not a reward for our good deeds or our faithfulness, but a gift that He freely gives. This is why the apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." We cannot earn God's grace, nor can we lose it. It is a gift that is freely given and can never be taken away.
B. This unfailing grace is also transformative. It changes us from the inside out, leading us to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. It is the grace that leads us to say with the prophet Hosea, "Come, let us return to the Lord." It is the grace that convicts us of our sin, leads us to repentance, and gives us the assurance of forgiveness and restoration. It is the grace that empowers us to live a life that is pleasing to God, not out of obligation or fear, but out of love and gratitude for what He has done for us.
C. Moreover, God's grace is healing. In Hosea 6:1, God promises to heal and restore His people who have been torn and injured. This is a powerful image of the healing power of God's grace. It is not a superficial or temporary fix, but a deep and lasting healing that reaches to the very core of our being. It heals our brokenness, mends our wounds, and restores us to wholeness. It is a healing that not only deals with the symptoms of our sin and brokenness but goes to the root cause, bringing complete restoration and transformation.
D. God's grace is also relentless. It pursues us, even when we stray. Like the shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine sheep to find the one that is lost, God's grace seeks us out, calls us back, and welcomes us home. It is a grace that refuses to let us go, a grace that is always ready and waiting for us to return. This is the grace that we see in the story of the prodigal son, who was welcomed home with open arms by his father, despite his rebellion and unfaithfulness.
