The Walk that Pleases God
Know: God wants me to walk with Him.
Do: Have faith and follow Him!
Enoch – Book of Enoch or oral tradition quoted by early church fathers, possibly by Jude also
Text Heb 11:5; Gen 5:24
Heb 11:5-7 (read together)
5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Gen 5:23-24 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
•Walking together implies relationship
Gen 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Everything rises and falls on relationship
Walking together requires agreement
Amos 3:3 Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Confess means agree with God
•Walking together requires direction
John 16:13 HS will guide you in all truth
1 Cor 2:9-10"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him"— 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
•Walking together implies a destination
Isa 30:21-22 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
Phil 3:20 (NKJV) For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ
•Walking together with God compels us to bring others on the journey with us
Jude 14-16 (prophetic)
14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15 to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him."
Matt 4:19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."
Mark 16:15-16 "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved…
2 Cor 5:14 Christ’s love compels us…
Close:
Where will our walk take us?
Coming back for those who are walking with Him.
1 Thess 4:16-18 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
Enoch walked with God and was taken up as an example of Gods desire for a generation
Noah walked with God and was taken through as an example of God’s power, purpose, and provision
