Walk With Jesus

Summary: We are saved and made into children of God. We need to behave like one in this fallen world. This sermon gives us some scriptural guidelines on how we ought to walk as God's children.
The Apostle Paul deals with an action or a verb that every Christians need to do once He accepts Jesus as His personal savior. He uses the verb “walk”. Walking is an action that every individual must practice in order to go from one point to another point. A baby starts crawling and eventually it will start walking. The whole process of growing up is to walk…..sometimes run and all the other times to walk. Today we have so many modes of transport. But during the first century AD they all walked their way to their destination (no grab, no taxis and busses)
Now Paul uses this verb to express that our Christian journey is literally to be walking with Jesus daily.
Eph. 4:17-21 – First Paul says “you must no longer walk”. Paul is clearly making a distinction here that once you are in Christ, you cannot walk the way you were walking before. A drastic change in lifestyle is needed and essential for every child of God.
Now moving on to chapter 5, Paul writes on how we ought to walk as children of God.
1. Eph 5:2 – Walk in love.
Walk in love simply means loving God should be our utmost priority and loving other should be second to that. Matthew 22:37-39.
Vs. 3-4 – Paul literally explains that the following practices deter us from truly loving God. This echoes to what the Apostle John wrote in 1 John 2:15-16 as we study last week.
Vs. 7 – Do not be partners with those who walks in darkness – walking a life without the love of God by indulging in the practices of darkness (ungodly ways of life).
2. Eph 5: 8 - Walk as children of light.
Do all that is good, right and true. Jesus said “You are the light of the world” – Matthew 5:14-16 – our light must shine before others through our good works that will ultimately bring glory to God.
Eph 5:11 – Paul also warns us to disassociate with any works of darkness. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 – Paul is constantly reminding us that our walk of life cannot be like that of the unbelievers. We live life differently because our priorities and motivations are are different. The people of this world live a life for the glory, fame and edification but we live our life to glorify the one who saved us – Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:20
Paul also realizes that the world is very deceiving and evil so he advised us in Eph 5:15-16 to walk wisely – do not be foolish! Understand the will of the Lord.
What is the will of God for you? For me? Paul explains it in 1 Thessalonian 4:3-8
God’s primary plan in saving us is to “sanctify” us and make us to continuously grow into Christlikeness. Sanctification is a life long process. God is concern and His will is for us to become more and more like Jesus….nothing else!
Vs. 7 says He has called us into holiness.
