Explores humility, obedience, the transformative power of the Gospel, and the essence of God's law, urging us to live authentically in God's truth.
Greetings, beloved in Christ, and welcome to this time of worship and reflection on God's Word. We are here today to break open the Bread of Life, to feast on the wisdom God has graciously provided for us in His Word. Today, we will be turning our hearts and minds towards three key passages of Scripture, each one a unique facet of the radiant diamond that is God's truth.
Now, let's turn our hearts and minds towards the Word of God...
We're here today, friends, to take a good, hard look at a story that's as old as time itself, yet as fresh as the morning dew. It's a story that's been told and retold, a story that's been lived out in countless lives across the centuries. It's the story of a man named Moses, standing on a mountain, looking out over a land he would never enter.
Humility: This is not a sign of weakness. It's not a sign of defeat. It's a sign of strength. It's a sign of faith. It's a sign of trust in God. And it's a sign of obedience. Moses knew this. He understood that his role was not to question God's plan, but to follow it. And so he did.
What does it mean to walk humbly?: What does it look like in our daily lives? Well, first and foremost, it means recognizing that we are not the center of the universe. It means acknowledging that we are not in control, that our plans and our desires are not always in line with God's plans and His desires. It means submitting to God's will, even when it's hard, even when it doesn't make sense, even when it hurts.
Recognizing our own limitations: It means understanding that we are not perfect, that we make mistakes, that we fall short. It means admitting when we're wrong, asking for forgiveness, and seeking to make things right. It means being willing to learn, to grow, to change.
Serving others: It means putting the needs of others before our own. It means seeking to lift others up, rather than tearing them down. It means being a source of encouragement, of support, of love.
The choice is ours: We can choose to walk humbly, to follow God's plan, to trust in His wisdom. Or we can choose to go our own way, to trust in our own wisdom, to follow our own plan. But let's remember the words of Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about if being humble is difficult for you or not. If it is, how do you manage that difficulty?
