Wake Up Sleepy Head

Judges 16:19-20

“A man liked to sleep frequently in church, so the pastor devised a plan. During

one service the pastor asked his congregation while the man was sleeping, ‘All

who want to go to heaven, please rise.’ Everyone stood up except the sleeper.

Then, at the top of his voice, he bellowed, ‘All who wish to go to hell, stand

up now!’ Only the sleeper stood up. The sleeper looked around and said, ‘I don’t

know what we’re voting on, Reverend, but it looks like you and me are the only

ones for it’.”

Romans 13:11-12-And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

Samson-Judges 16:19-20-Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

Let us not sleep, like Samson did, while he slept, lost his hair, lost his strength, he lost his liberty, lost his eyes, and ultimately lost his life.

It is the sleep of presumption. That is the spirit of “I can handle it, no problem,” the spirit of over-confidence.

That we don’t need to pray, to study, to walk with the Lord daily, that is a false presumption!

We need God every day!

We cannot live on pass experiences to get us thru future experiences!

Just like Israel needed daily manna to survive in the wilderness, we need daily communication with God to survive the daily battles we have on this old earth!

We need His strength for today! We need His guidance for today! We need His help for today!

Samson once killed the enemies of Israel, but now he spends his time with Delilah,

Just like many Christians do today, they spend their time with someone or something else besides God!

They use to be in Church, but now there are not!

They use to be Sunday school, but now they are not!

They use to be faithful workers in the Church, they use to be ones you could count on, but not no more!!

They use to tell others about Christ, but not no more!

They have gone to sleep! They have been lulled to sleep by the things of this world!

Samson just like many Christians today think, “Hey, I’ve done my part, I’ve done my share, let someone else do something, I’m just going to sit back and take it easy!”

GUESS WHAT HAPPENS:

They get uninvolved and they go to sleep spiritually!

They get uninterested in God’s work and they go to sleep spiritually!

They are not concerned about the lost around them and they go to sleep spiritually!

Not only does that person lose because they have not allowed God to use them any more!

They are missing all blessings and all the excitement of being where God wants you to be and seeing Him work in your presents!

The church loses in having another worker in the church, another soldier on the field,

With that one more person, another Sunday school class could have been started, another ministry could have started, more children, more youth or more adults could have been reached for the cause of Christ!

But also the world loses, that is one less person that would tell them about Jesus, that’s one less person who gives their tithe that sends a missionary to a foreign country, or buys bible to send to someone who doesn’t have one or prays for them to receive Christ as their Savior!

No wonder Satan wants us to take a nap!

Daddy would say, “Wake up sleepy head, your sleeping your life away!”
