To emphasize the importance of waiting on the Lord with faith, trust, and patience, and to recognize the strength and blessings that come from trusting in His timing.
Good morning, brothers and sisters. We’re going to talk about something that is challenging for most of us – waiting. Waiting on the Lord and trusting His timing.
Our scripture today comes from Isaiah 40:31, "But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."
This verse has been a source of comfort and courage for many, reminding us of the strength we receive from God when we wait upon Him. A quote from Andrew Murray ties in beautifully with this theme. Murray once said, "Waiting on God requires the willingness to bear uncertainty, to carry within oneself the unanswered question, letting the heart hold it until it is answered." Waiting is an act of faith, trust, and patience.
So, let’s open in prayer.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word and the guidance it provides us. We ask for your wisdom and understanding. Help us to wait faithfully, trusting in your timing, and recognizing the strength and blessings that come from waiting on you. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
Waiting on the Lord is an active demonstration of our faith, trust, and patience. It is a spiritual discipline that requires strength, a strength that is renewed and fortified by our reliance on God. The prophet Isaiah assures us that those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, a promise that is both comforting and empowering.
The strength of waiting is multifaceted. Though it is physical strength, it is also emotional, mental, and spiritual strength. It is the strength to endure, the strength to persevere, and the strength to hope. Waiting on the Lord requires us to relinquish control and trust in His timing, His plans, and His purposes. It takes courage to acknowledge our limitations and to trust in God’s infinite wisdom and power.
The strength of waiting also lies in its transformative power. As we wait on the Lord, we are being molded and shaped by the Potter’s hand. We are being refined in the fire of trials and tribulations, emerging stronger and more resilient. Our faith is tested and proven genuine, and our character is developed and matured. Waiting on the Lord is a valuable investment in our spiritual growth and maturity.
Furthermore, the strength of waiting is manifested in the renewal of our hope and joy. As we wait on the Lord, our perspective shifts from our circumstances to our Savior. We are reminded of His faithfulness, His goodness, and His love for us. Our hope is rekindled, and our joy is restored. Waiting on the Lord is an opportunity to experience God’s presence, peace, and provision in a deeper and more profound way.
The strength of waiting is also evident in our increased capacity to serve and bless others. As we wait on the Lord, we are equipped and empowered to be a source of encouragement, comfort, and hope to those around us. Our waiting becomes a testimony of God’s faithfulness, inspiring others to trust in Him and wait on Him.
