Wait On God

ps. 62:5

My soul wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from him.

One of the most necessary and valuable lessons for the christian to learn is the Holy habit of waiting on God. (Necessary and yet difficult )

· Not as a desperate measure when forced into a corner, but as a pleasure and a priveledge.

· Not as a last resort

David had learned the value of waiting on God. Concerning the purposes of God, timing is critical

Eccl 3:1

1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2 Sam 5:24

24And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

Job 39:27

27Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

( The eagle waits for the current of the wind that is necessary to her )

Josh 3:4

4Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

This space symbolized (1) Respect, honor. (2) Dependance

We wait on God for direction, for assistance, for protection, for promotion ( David said: my expectation is from him)

Prov 8:34

34Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

(This teaches us that God blesses the man that takes time to seek God daily)

Isa 64:4

4For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

1 Cor 2:10

10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

These two scriptures teach us, that God has things that have never been seen or heard, prepared for us, and that he will reveal them by his spirit to those who wait on him.

Isa 40:29-31

29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Those who wait on God are infused with a supernatural power and strength, When the youths are weary and fainting, and the young men are falling down, Those who wait on God are mounting up with eagles wings, running without weariness, and walking without fainting.

We must recognize the true definition of waiting on God.

It does not mean to sit with our hands folded, in impatience wishing God would hurry up, But waiting on God literally means to minister to him, to serve him, to honor him.

Ps 123:2

2Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

This speaks of ministry, attending to or upon, looking to the interest and the well being of another. Being concerned and considerate of the needs and desires of another,

We find this same thought in the book of acts.

Acts 13:2

2As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Ps 62:5

5My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

David believed it to be the most important thing he could do, so should we.
