Victory In Jesus

Introduction:

Turn with me in the hymnal that is in your pew. Turn to page _________. This is my sermon outline tonight. Victory In Jesus!

If there is anything we need today it is Victory! Amen!

This old Hymn was written in 1939.

Author E. M. Bartlett.

Victory is defined as The defeat of an Enemy.

· We may desire Victory Over Osama Ben Ladan today.

· We may desire Victory Over Terriorism today.

· But what we need is not Victory Over but Victory In Jesus!

· According to the definition

· Victory In Jesus is Defeat of the Enemy through the Power of Jesus Christ

The writer of Chronicles tells us

1 Chron 29:11

11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory

Isaiah said

Isa 25:8

8 The Lord GOD will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces;

Paul Wrote

1 Cor 15:54-57

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

KJV

Now listen to what E. M. Bartlett was inspired to compose

1)

I heard an old, old story,

How a Savior came from Glory.

Oh, do you remember when you heard the old, old story.

I remember when I first heard the old, old story.

Here is the book my mother would read to me when I was just a little boy. She would open this Big Red Book and read to me

· IN THE BEGINNING God said . . .

· Fall of Adam and Eve

· Noah and the Flood

When I grew older the old, old story became a personal experience when I read of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

I read how the Savior came from Glory!

1 John 4:9-10

that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN YOU FIRST HEARD THE OLD, OLD STORY?

DON’T YOU THANK GOD YOU WERE TOLD THE OLD, OLD STORY?

I thank God Jesus was willing to come from Glory just to forgive me.

just to cleanse me.

I thank God Jesus was willing to come from Glory JUST FOR YOU!!

How He gave His life on Calvary,

To Save a Wretch like me;

We know the story. The Gospels tell it this way.

Luke 23:33-34

33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.

John 10:15

I lay down my life for the sheep.

John 10:17

I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

I heard about His Groaning,

Of His Precious Blood’s Atoning,

Mark 15:37

37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Matt 27:46-47

46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

Matt 27:50

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

John 19:34

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

Heb 9:22

22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Then I Repented of my Sins

And Won the Victory.

When I heard this Old, Old Story I Repented of my Sins.

And I Won the Victory. Praise God for the Victory.

2)

I heard about His Healing,

Of His Cleansing Power revealing,

Mark 1:40-42

40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

What a wonderful sermon. Again proving the great things of God are made simple enought for a child to understand if only we believe.
