Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Every one of us is going to face something in our life that will shake our faith to its foundation. We are currently in the business of building up our faith to its greatest strength.
Each one of us will face challenges in life that will test our faith to its core. These trials may come in the form of loss, doubt, disappointment, betrayal, or discouragement. It is crucial that we build up our faith to its greatest strength, preparing ourselves for the day we need it the most. Can your faith today sustain you through a significant trial? In this sermon, we will explore the concept of unshakable faith as described in 1 Thessalonians 3.
We cannot predict how we would respond to persecution as most of us have not experienced it firsthand. While we may have faced discomfort, embarrassment, or ridicule for our faith, true persecution can severely challenge our faith. To remain unshaken, we need two things: encouragement and expectation. We must seek encouragement and strength from being deeply rooted in the Word, prayer, and focusing on spiritual realities. Additionally, we should expect to face challenges to our faith. Neglecting our spiritual growth will leave us vulnerable when persecution comes.
Temptation is something that affects everyone, luring us away from the path of discipleship. Satan, referred to as the tempter, has been tempting humans for centuries and knows how to effectively destroy our faith. We must be aware of his schemes and be prepared to resist temptation. Many Christians, including leaders, have fallen away due to the attacks of our adversary. Building an unshakable faith requires us to be vigilant against temptation.
Our faith is not something we can build on our own; it is a work of God in our lives. We must allow God to increase and overflow our faith. As we grow in faith, we will also grow in love for one another, which is the hallmark of Christianity. Additionally, our connection to God will deepen, leading us to pursue holiness. God's work in our lives is what ultimately makes our faith unshakable.
Building unshakable faith is a lifelong effort. It is a process of moving towards maturity, knowing, trust, and dependence on Christ. Our faith does not have to be perfect, knowledgeable, doubtless, or self-sufficient, but it should always be growing. We must ask ourselves if our faith today would sustain us through a significant trial. Isaiah 28:16 reminds us that the Lord has laid a sure foundation in Zion, and those who believe will be unshakable.
In this sermon, we have explored the importance of building unshakable faith to face persecution and temptation. We have also emphasized that our faith is built by God and grows through love for one another and pursuit of holiness. Let us continue to strengthen our faith and trust in God, knowing that He will sustain us through any trial we may face.
