Easter is a time to revisit the empty tomb and marvel at the power of God, who surpasses our expectations and imaginations.
Today, we will reflect on the story of Easter and the significance of the empty tomb. It is a reminder of God's incredible power, surpassing our understanding and imagination.
"When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, 'Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?' But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 'Don't be alarmed,' he said. 'You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, "He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you." Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone because they were afraid.'"
These faithful women, Mary Magdalene, Mary (mother of James), and Salome, made a courageous decision to visit Jesus' tomb after the Sabbath. They wanted to properly anoint His body for burial. However, they were concerned about the large stone blocking the entrance. They wondered who would help them move it.
As they approached the tomb, they faced additional challenges. The soldiers guarding the tomb had fled in fear, and the seal placed by the Roman Governor had been broken. Despite these distractions, the women pressed on, determined to fulfill their duty. Similarly, we all encounter obstacles that hinder our progress and joy in life. But just as God rolled away the stone from Jesus' tomb, He can remove the stones in our lives too.
To their surprise, when the women arrived at the tomb, they found the stone already rolled away. An angel sat on the stone, assuring them that Jesus had risen. This miraculous event demonstrated God's power over death and His ability to overcome any obstacle. In our own lives, God can remove the stones that block our path and bring about victory.
- The Red Sea: When the Israelites faced the Red Sea with Pharaoh's army pursuing them, God miraculously parted the waters, allowing them to cross safely. He can do the same for us, removing barriers and leading us to victory.
- Samaria's Abundance: In a time of great scarcity, God brought abundance to the city of Samaria within 24 hours. He can turn lack into plenty and provide for our needs.
- David and Goliath: David, a young boy, defeated the giant Goliath through God's strength. No matter how strong our adversaries may seem, God can grant us victory.
- Lazarus' Resurrection: Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, commanding the stone to be rolled away from his tomb. Likewise, God can remove any hindrance to His glory being revealed in our lives.
The stone that blocked Jesus' tomb was a symbol of shame and defeat. Yet, through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus triumphed over death and emerged victorious. Similarly, God can roll away the stones in our lives, bringing an end to shame and reproach. Let us trust in His power and believe that He can overcome any obstacle we face. May the power of the Holy Spirit set us free and lead us to a life of abundance and victory.
