This sermon explores the profound love of God as expressed in John 3:16, emphasizing its promise of salvation and eternal life through belief in Jesus.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved family of God. You are welcome here, in this sacred space, under the canopy of His unending grace. We are here, not by accident, but by divine appointment. We are here, not as strangers, but as brothers and sisters, bound by the love of our Father.

Opening Scripture Reading – Today, we turn our hearts and minds to one of the most profound, most cherished verses in the entire Bible - John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." What a promise! What a declaration of divine love! What an assurance of eternal life!

Quote – In the words of the great preacher George Whitefield, "Take care of your life and the Lord will take care of your death." Isn't that a beautiful thought? Isn't that a comforting truth? Isn't that a reason to rejoice? It is indeed, dear friends. It is indeed.

Opening Prayer – Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unspeakable gift, for the love that You have lavished upon us, for the hope that You have given us. As we reflect on Your Word today, open our hearts and minds to the depth of Your love, to the magnitude of Your sacrifice, to the certainty of our salvation. May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Heaven's Unspeakable Gift

The love of God, as expressed in the gift of His one and only Son, is a divine act of love. This is what we refer to as Heaven's unspeakable gift. It's a gift that is so magnificent, so awe-inspiring, that words fail to capture its true essence.

The nature of this gift. It's not a gift that can be measured in human terms as far money or tangible worth is concerned. It’s a gift of love, life, and salvation that transcends time and space. This is an eternal gift.

The cost of this gift. It's a gift that came at a great price paid not with silver and gold, but with blood. The price was the ultimate sacrifice with the life of God's one and only Son. It's a gift that demonstrates the depth of God's love for us.

The purpose of this gift. It's a gift that was given for a specific purpose. The purpose was to provide a way for us to be reconciled to God, to be saved from our sins, to have eternal life. It's a gift that fulfills God's divine plan of redemption.

The response to this gift. It's a gift that demands a response. The response is faith, belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It's a gift that requires us to accept it, to receive it, to embrace it.

The fulfillment of God’s promise. This unspeakable gift is also the fulfillment of God's promise. Perhaps the most well known words in Christianity are “whoever believes in Jesus shall not perish but have eternal life.” This promise is not limited to a select few but is extended to all who believe. It's a promise that is not based on our works or our efforts but on God's faithfulness and truth.

The demonstration of God's power. God is not limited by our weaknesses or our failures, but is made perfect in our weakness. God intentionally designed us to be weak! We were made to be dependent upon our God who bestows upon his beloved good gifts from above (James 1:16-18). It's a power that is not thwarted by our doubts or our fears, but is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.

Recap/Transition. Heaven's unspeakable gift, as revealed in John 3:16, is a profound truth that should inspire us, challenge us, and transform us. It's a truth that should cause us to marvel at the depth of God's love, to stand in awe of His sacrifice, to rejoice in His promise, to rely on His power, and to rest in His grace. It's a truth that should compel us to respond in faith, to live in obedience, to serve in love, and to hope in eternity.
