INTRODUCTION
We live in a world of constant change. Values, beliefs, and even moral standards are shifting rapidly. Many things that were once considered unshakable are now being questioned. In such a world, how can believers remain steadfast in their faith? How do we stay firm when everything around us seems unstable?
As believers, we are called to stand firm in the midst of trials, temptations, and shifting cultural trends. The Bible encourages us in 1 Corinthians 15:58 to be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. This means that no matter what happens around us, we must remain rooted in Christ, our solid foundation.
Today, we will examine what it means to be unshakable, why we must stand firm, and how we can remain steadfast in our faith despite the pressures of the world.
1. UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE UNSHAKABLE
Being unshakable means having a faith that remains strong despite challenges.
a) An unshakable person trusts in God completely (Psalm 125:1)
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved.
b) An unshakable believer builds on the right foundation (Matthew 7:24-25)
Jesus said those who obey His words are like a house built on a rock.
c) An unshakable life is not controlled by emotions or circumstances (James 1:6-8)
Those who waver are like waves of the sea, tossed by the wind.
d) An unshakable believer stands firm in the truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Word of God is our foundation for truth and wisdom.
e) Biblical Example: Job’s Unshakable Faith (Job 19:25-27)
Despite losing everything, Job declared, “I know that my Redeemer lives.”
2. WHY WE MUST STAND FIRM IN A SHIFTING WORLD
The world is changing, but God’s truth remains the same.
a) The enemy constantly seeks to shake our faith (1 Peter 5:8-9)
Satan walks about like a roaring lion, looking for whom to devour.
b) Trials and persecutions will come (John 16:33)
Jesus warned that in this world, we will have tribulations.
c) Many are being deceived by false teachings (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
People will turn away from sound doctrine to follow their own desires.
d) Standing firm brings eternal rewards (Revelation 3:11-12)
Jesus promised a crown to those who hold fast to their faith.
e) Biblical Example: The Three Hebrew Boys (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) (Daniel 3:16-18)
They refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s idol and stood firm in their faith.
3. HOW TO REMAIN UNSHAKABLE IN A SHIFTING WORLD
Remaining firm requires deliberate effort and spiritual discipline.
a) Stay rooted in God’s Word (Colossians 2:6-7)
A strong foundation in the Word keeps us from being swayed.
b) Maintain a strong prayer life (Ephesians 6:18)
Prayer strengthens us against trials and temptations.
c) Surround yourself with godly influences (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Fellowship with other believers helps to strengthen our faith.
d) Rely on the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
The Holy Spirit empowers us to stand firm.
e) Biblical Example: Daniel’s Consistent Prayer Life (Daniel 6:10)
Despite opposition, Daniel remained steadfast in his devotion to God.
4. HINDRANCES TO STANDING FIRM
Many believers struggle to remain steadfast because of various distractions.
a) Fear of persecution or rejection (Matthew 10:22)
Many are afraid to stand for Christ because of opposition.
b) Compromise with worldly standards (Romans 12:2)
Believers who conform to the world lose their spiritual stability.
c) Spiritual laziness and lack of discipline (Proverbs 24:30-34)
A lazy believer becomes weak and easily shaken.
d) Doubt and unbelief (Hebrews 3:12)
A heart filled with doubt drifts away from God.
e) Biblical Example: Peter’s Moment of Weakness (Matthew 26:69-75)
Peter denied Jesus out of fear but later repented and stood firm.
5. THE REWARD OF BEING UNSHAKABLE
God honours those who remain steadfast in their faith.
a) Divine stability and peace (Isaiah 26:3)
Those who trust in God will have perfect peace.
b) Strength in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1-2)
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
c) Victory over trials and temptations (James 1:12)
Those who endure trials will receive the crown of life.
d) Eternal security in Christ (John 10:28-29)
Nothing can snatch us from God’s hand when we stand firm.
e) Biblical Example: Paul’s Final Words of Victory (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Paul declared that he had fought the good fight and finished his race.
CONCLUSION
In a world full of uncertainties, the call to be unshakable has never been more urgent. Many are being carried away by the winds of false doctrines, worldly temptations, and trials. However, as believers, we must remain steadfast in our faith, deeply rooted in God’s Word, and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
