The key to receiving blessings is obedience to God's laws. Often, we follow certain biblical instructions but neglect others, particularly those concerning finances. God's desire to bless us is contingent on our obedience.

Introduction

Today, we will explore the secret to receiving blessings from God. It lies in our obedience to His laws, particularly in the area of finances. Oftentimes, we may follow some instructions in the Bible but neglect important commandments, especially when it comes to our finances. However, God desires to bless us abundantly if we can be obedient in this area.

The Power of Tithes

In Proverbs 3:9-10, we are instructed to honor the Lord with our wealth and the firstfruits of our crops. Our tithe, which is ten percent of our income, is considered holy to the Lord. It is set apart and should be given back to Him faithfully. Leviticus 27:30 states that everything from the land belongs to the Lord and should be tithed. If we fail to tithe, we are robbing God and placing ourselves under a curse.

Benefits of Tithing

When we honor God with our tithes, He promises to open the floodgates of heaven and pour out blessings upon us. Our barns will be filled to overflowing, and our vats will brim over with new wine (Malachi 3:10). Tithing also brings protection against pests, such as sickness, financial difficulties, and closed doors of opportunity (Malachi 3:11). As a result, we will be called blessed by all nations (Malachi 3:12).

The Power of Offerings

Offerings are like seeds for our next harvest. We must not consume the seed but rather sow it for future growth. In 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, we learn that whatever we sow, we will reap. If we sow sparingly, we will reap sparingly, but if we sow generously, we will reap generously. Therefore, we should give from our hearts and not reluctantly or under compulsion. God loves a cheerful giver.

Types of Offerings

1. Freewill Offerings: These are voluntary offerings given for the work of the Lord, such as love offerings and sharing blessings with others in need. We should freely scatter our gifts to the poor, as it will result in blessings for us (Luke 14:12-14).

2. Peace Offerings: These offerings express gratitude to God for His blessings and goodness in our lives (Leviticus 7:11-12). We can give peace offerings on occasions like birthdays, receiving bonuses, or other material blessings.

3. Vows Offerings: Vows are promises made to God, where we commit to giving something if He fulfills a specific request. For example, Hannah vowed to give her son to God as a Nazarite (1 Samuel 1:11). We should be careful to fulfill our vows as failing to do so can have negative consequences.

Conclusion

When we give our tithes and offerings, we activate the power of God's blessings in our lives. By honoring God with our finances, we open ourselves up to His abundant provision and protection. Let us remember that what we sow, we will reap. Therefore, let us give generously and cheerfully, knowing that God will bless us in return. May we be faithful stewards of our finances and experience the joy of being a channel of blessing to others.
