Youth Group Plan: Unhindered Forgiveness (Galatians 5)

Youth Sermon: Unhindered Forgiveness

Introduction

Today, we're gonna talk about forgiveness. Forgiveness is something we all need but sometimes struggle to give or receive. So, let's dive in and see what God has to say about it.

Object Lesson: Grab a backpack and fill it with heavy objects like rocks or books. As you talk about forgiveness, put the backpack on and try to walk around. Explain how carrying this heavy load is like holding onto unforgiveness in our lives.

Forgiveness is something we all need but sometimes struggle to give or receive.

The Importance of Forgiveness

So, what's the big deal about forgiveness? Well, as Christians, we believe that we all mess up and need forgiveness from God. And the awesome thing is, God offers us forgiveness through Jesus. In the past, people had to do all these complicated rituals and sacrifices to be forgiven, but Jesus changed all that. Now, all we have to do is confess our sins and believe in Him (Romans 10:9).

But forgiveness isn't just about us being forgiven by God. It's also about us forgiving others. Like when your friend borrows your favorite hoodie and 'forgets' to give it back, or when your sibling eats the last slice of pizza you were saving. We're called to forgive others just like God forgives us.

The Weight of Unforgiveness

[Read Matthew 6:14-15]

So, let's think about this backpack I'm wearing. It's heavy, right? Carrying around unforgiveness is like carrying around this heavy backpack. It weighs us down and keeps us from living the life God wants for us.

Now, I want you to think about someone you need to forgive. Maybe it's a friend, a family member, or even yourself. Imagine taking a heavy object out of the backpack and letting it go. That's what forgiveness feels like. It's freeing and lightens our load.

Challenge and Prayer

So, here's a challenge for you this week: practice forgiveness. When someone hurts you or makes you mad, choose to forgive them. And if you're struggling to forgive, ask God for help. He's always there to guide us and give us the strength we need.

Let's pray together: 'God, thank you for forgiving us through Jesus. Help us to forgive others just like you forgive us. Give us the strength and courage to let go of any unforgiveness we're holding onto. In Jesus' name, Amen.'
