Unfit For The Battle

Summary: The Christian life is a spiritual warfare. The success of any warfare depends on the soldiers as well as their Captain. Many soldiers in God's army are unfit for the battle.
This chapter contains the Law of God for the Israelites on the subject of battle. In this chapter, as God gives this law, He lists four classes of people who are unfit the battle.
I. Those Whose Dedication is Incomplete
1. I’m concerned when I see so many Christians dedicated to everything but serving the Lord.
2. I see people who are dedicated to their jobs, to their hobbies, dedicated to their recreational pleasures, but not to God.
3. Our job as Christians are far more important than anything here on earth. Our job is to witness for Christ.
a. More important than being a bank president, being a star athlete, having a beautiful yard.
b. More important than having fun or being popular.
4. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all Christians were dedicated 100% to the cause of Christ? We can be saved and not dedicated.
5. You can see the difference:
a. Sunday morning and Sunday evening crowd.
b. What’s the difference? Dedication
c. Wednesday night crowd. Dedication
d. Visitation and Soul Winning. Dedication
6. No wonder many young people today say, “My parents are phony.” They see the lack of dedication.
7. 350,000 babies are born every day. How many grow up, live and die without ever hearing about Jesus. Whose fault is it? It falls on our shoulders.
8. More are dedicated to Field and Stream magazine than to the things of the Lord.
a. More dedicated to the sports page of the Newspaper.
b. There is something wrong when you can tell me all about the football player, their stats, but can’t name one disciple.
II. Those Who Have Never Tasted the Fruit of their Own Labor
1. The fruit of a Christian is other Christians. We are saved to bear fruit. John 15:2-16
2. If I had never produced any fruit, I’d be concerned.
3. When was the last time we talked to someone about their soul?
III. Those Who Have Unfulfilled Obligations
1. Our churches are filled with folks who have made vows to God and have not kept them. Ecclesiastes 5:4-6; Deuteronomy 23:21
2. Can you remember some of the vows you have made?
a. When that baby was sick, Lord I will live for you
b. When your home was on the rocks
c. When your finances were bad
3. Some of us have vowed to win souls, to read our bible, to visit our S.S. class.
4. Some of us have made commitments to tithe or to give to missions.
5. We have vowed to love one another. Some of us hold grudges. Matthew 5:23-24
IV. Those Who Are Fearful and Faint-Hearted
1. God give us Christians with boldness
2. Christians who are faint-hearted have a way of contaminating other Christians. It is catchy.
3. There is no reason for the child of God to be fearful or faint-hearted. Jeremiah 32:17
4. You can do as much as you think you can, but you will never accomplish more. Proverbs 23:7
5. Unfit for Battle:
a. Those whose dedication is incomplete.
b. Those who have never tasted the fruit of their own labor.
c. Those with unfulfilled obligations.
d. Those who are fearful and faint-hearted.
Where do you stand today? Can God use you? Are you in the battle? Come on let’s get involved.
