Everyone possesses some form of faith. We place faith in various aspects of our lives, such as trusting our car to start and take us to our desired destination, or believing in the expertise of our doctors. This mindset is universal.

Introduction

Today, I want to talk about "faith." Everyone has some type of faith, whether it's in their car starting or in their doctor's expertise. We all have faith in something or someone. However, the difference lies in the object of our faith. Our faith is only as good as the object we place it in.

In the spiritual realm, faith is expressed differently. The Bible tells us that we are to personally put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. Acts 4:12 states that there is no salvation in any other name except Jesus.

What is Faith?

So, what is faith? Let's clear up some misconceptions. Faith is not just about sincerity or believing in something strongly. True faith is based on the object of our faith. Our faith should be in Jesus Christ, not in ourselves or any other religious figure.

Hebrews 11:1-3 gives us a clear definition of faith. It says that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith is the confidence and conviction we have in God's promises, even though we can't physically see them.

Faith is not blind belief; it is rooted in God's Word. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing the Word of God. We can trust in God's promises because He has proven Himself faithful throughout history.

Abel's Faith

Abel, mentioned in verse 4, exemplifies true faith. He offered a more excellent sacrifice than his brother Cain because he believed and obeyed God's instructions. Abel's sacrifice pointed to the future sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who would become the Lamb of God to take away our sins.

Cain, on the other hand, chose his own way and did not believe God's instructions. He invented his own method of worship, which was not acceptable to God. Cain represents those who rely on their own works or ideas instead of trusting in God's way of salvation.

Salvation through Faith in Jesus

God has made it clear that the only way to Him is through faith in Jesus Christ. John 3:16-17 states that God loved the world so much that He gave His Son, Jesus, to save us. Salvation is not achieved through our own efforts but through faith in what Jesus has done for us.

Faith is not just a one-time decision; it is a lifestyle of trusting and obeying God. It is believing in what God has spoken and following His ways. We can have confidence in our faith because it is based on the unchanging character of God.

Conclusion

In conclusion, faith is not just a vague belief or blind trust. It is a confident assurance in God's promises and a conviction that comes from hearing His Word. True faith is placing our trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and living a life that reflects that trust. Let us follow the example of Abel and put our faith in the one who is faithful and true.
