Twenty-Five Immortal Words
Contributed by Jonathan Campbell on Jun 24, 2008 (message contributor)
Summary: Martin Luther described John 3:16 as the gospel in a nutshell. He was exactly right.
TEXT
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
’Twenty five words, John three sixteen; no greater text has ever been seen. There’s twelve about God and twelve about me, the Son in the middle, verse sixteen John three’.
In the US, the In-N-Out burger chain prints John 3:16 on their paper cups and french fry containers. Clothing chain Forever 21 prints it on the bottom of their shopping bags. It is without doubt the most famous of all the 31,373 verses in the Bible.
1. A BEING WITHOUT A BEGINNING
"For God"
2. A LOVE WITHOUT A LIMIT
"so loved the world"
3. A PRESENT WITHOUT A PRICE
"that he gave his only begotten Son"
4. A RANGE WITHOUT A RESTRICTION
"that whosoever believeth in him"
5. A DESTINY WITHOUT A DOUBT
"should not perish but have everlasting life"
To God be the glory, great things He has done;
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life gate that all may go in.
