Trusting God When We Don't Understand

Bible Text: Habakkuk 1:1-11; 2:1-4, 12-14; 3:2, 18-19

• Many time’s the events in our world fail to make sense. We watch the news (especially the political news during this season) or the events in our own personal lives and we wonder, “Where is God in all of this?” Sometimes, we have to admit that it seems like God is silent or that He is not even there.

• The prophet, Habakkuk, lived in a time period near the end of ancient Israel’s history when he saw God’s people suffer while the wicked prospered. It caused him to wonder and to doubt. Habakkuk asked God some hard questions – questions we may often want to ask as well, but either don’t dare or don’t have the words.

o Why do the wicked prosper?

o Why do the righteous suffer?

o What is God’s relationship to evil?

o How should we live when life doesn’t go as we expected?

• God answered Habakkuk’s questions. His response is still applicable today. He reminded Habakkuk that:

o Habakkuk 2:1-4: He is called to live by faith not by sight.

o Habakkuk 3:2: He is to pray and believe for revival.

o Habakkuk 3:17-19: He was to rejoice in God of his salvation.
