TRUST HIS HEART

John 19:25-27

TEXT: Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus there-fore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

PROPOSITION: To motivate the hearer to trust God’s plan for his/her life even though he/she may not fully understand the why of God’s plan.

INTRODUCTION: TRUST HIS HEART

God is too wise to be mistaken.

God is too good to be unkind.

So when you don’t understand,

When you don’t see His plan,

When you can’t trace His hand, Trust His heart.

All things work for our good,

Though sometimes we can’t see how they could.

Struggles that break our hearts in two

Sometimes blind us to the truth,

Our Father knows what’s best for us;

His ways are not our own.

So when your pathway grows dim,

And you just can’t see Him,

Remember, you’re never alone,

He sees the master plan.

He holds the future in His hands.

So don’t live as those who have no hope;

All our hope is found in Him.

We see the present clearly,

But He sees the first and the last.

And like a tapestry, He’s weaving you and me

To someday be just like Him.

I. GOD’S PLAN CONCERNING YOU IS PERFECT

Jeremiah 29:11-14 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD,

Application: You may not always understand the hows or whys of God’s plan for your life, but His plan for you is perfect none the less. Mary did not always understand how God was going to work in her life, but she was ever willing to commit herself to God’s plan even though she didn’t understand it.

Luke 1:26-38 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and consid-ered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 "And be-hold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His king-dom there will be no end." 34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" 35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 "Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 "For with God nothing will be impossible." 38 Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

II. GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU IS LIMITLESS

John 19:26,27 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

Application: What makes this statement of Jesus so very significant is the fact that Jesus made this statement from the cross. His body was in excruciating pain. His mouth was dry (He immediately asked for a drink after He made this statement) and His life was slowly ebbing away. Yet, in spite of all of His agony, Jesus’ love for His mother caused Him to ensure that her needs were met ahead of His.
