Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Emphasize the importance of being true disciples of Christ, not just in words but in actions, by obeying God's will and avoiding the danger of being false disciples.
Good morning, church family! Today, we're going to dive deep into a passage that will challenge us, convict us, and hopefully, inspire us to live in a way that truly honors God. We'll be looking at Matthew 7:21-23, a passage that deals with some pretty hefty topics – the necessity of obedience, the danger of false disciples, and the difference between true and false disciples.
Before we get started, I want to share a quote with you from Leland Lewis. He once said, "What is a 'false prophet'? Those who lie by attributing personal biases to divine source." This will be good to keep in mind? As we'll see in our passage today, it's not enough just to say we're followers of Christ – our actions have to back up our words.
Here is the passage from Matthew 7:21-23:
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'"
Dear God, we thank you for your Word that guides us and corrects us. As we delve into this passage, we ask for your wisdom and discernment. Help us to be true disciples, obedient and faithful to your will, and not just mere hearers or speakers of your Word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Obedience is a fundamental principle in our Christian walk, and it is clearly emphasized in the passage we are studying today ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
