Summary: It was not easy It was painful It was heavy But it had to be accomplished And He did, Glory

(Matthew 27v1-66)

Concentration: on Jesus’ trip to Calvary.

Jesus before the Sanhedrin, vv. 1-10.

Jesus before Pilate and the people, vv. 11-31.

The journey to Golgotha, vv. 32-55.

Jesus’ burial, vv. 56-66.

Meditation: on this blessed journey Jesus made on our behalf.

After Jesus has been betrayed for thirty pieces of silver, he is brought before the seventy-one elders who draw charges of high treason: Judas for the first time realizes the gravity of the matter and murders himself.

Jesus is brought to Governor Pilate who fortunately sees through the blatant lies, but due to political pressure, Pilate washes his hands and hands over our Lord to the masses who bay for his blood.

Jesus is charged to die (for our sins), he depicts the suffering servant as he is led to slaughter at Calvary, but thanks to an African, Simon who bears the cross for him.

After his death, one of the members of the Sanhedrin, Joseph of Arimathea, requested the body of Jesus and gave him a decent burial in his own field.

Revelation: on the deep spiritual importance of this trip Jesus made to a mankind.

He was charged for sins that were ours.

He suffered God’s wrath to legally satisfy God’s own vow: the soul that sinneth shall surely die (Ezekiel 18:20)

He snatched us from the jaws of death: he actually paid the ultimate price- his life.

He was buried together with our sins: as long as you believe and obey his word.

Application: as a Christian, I need:

Not to betray Jesus’ trust.

Not to crucify Jesus anew.

Not to go to hell.

To live a blessed life.
