Invest in heavenly treasures through godly living, understand the eternal impact of our actions, and align our hearts with God's values.
Good morning, beloved family of God. It is a blessing to be gathered here once again in the house of the Lord, a sanctuary where we can come together as a community of believers, united in our love for Christ and our desire to grow closer to Him.
Today, we will be turning our hearts and minds to the words of Jesus as recorded in the book of Matthew, chapter 6, verses 19 through 21. These verses are a cornerstone of Christ's teachings, a beacon of wisdom that guides us on how to live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to God.
These verses serve as a profound reminder that the true treasures in life are not material possessions or worldly achievements, but the spiritual riches that we accumulate through a life lived in service to God and others.
When we think about the idea of investing, our minds often go to financial matters. We think about stocks, bonds, real estate, and retirement funds. But the kind of investment that Jesus is talking about in Matthew 6:19-21 is of a different nature. It's not about accumulating wealth for our own benefit, but about using our resources in ways that honor God and further His kingdom. This is the kind of investment that yields eternal dividends, that cannot be destroyed by moths or vermin, and that cannot be stolen by thieves.
It involves our time: Time is a precious resource that God has given us. Each of us has been allotted a certain number of days on this earth, and we are called to use them wisely. This means prioritizing our relationship with God, spending time in prayer and in the study of His Word. It also means using our time to serve others, to show love and kindness, to share the gospel, and to work for justice and peace.
It involves our talents: Each of us has been gifted with unique abilities and skills. Some of us are gifted in teaching, others in music, others in administration, and others in countless other areas. These talents are not meant to be hoarded or used solely for our own benefit. Instead, they are meant to be used for the glory of God and the good of others. When we use our talents in this way, we are investing in the kingdom of God.
It involves our treasures: This refers to our material possessions and financial resources. Jesus is clear in His teaching that we are not to store up treasures on earth, where they can be destroyed or stolen. Instead, we are to use our treasures to further the work of God's kingdom. This might involve giving to the church, supporting missionaries, helping those in need, or investing in projects that promote justice and peace.
It involves our hearts: Jesus tells us that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. This means that what we value, what we invest in, reveals what is truly important to us. If we are investing our time, talents, and treasures in the things of God, it shows that our hearts are aligned with His. But if we are investing in worldly things, it shows that our hearts are far from Him.
As we continue to reflect on the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 6:19-21, we find ourselves drawn to the idea of eternal rewards ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
