Mt 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

Mt 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light

Transfiguration

This is an amazing account of those 3 disciples seeing for themselves the glory of the Lord.

It is one thing to recognize that there is a God who is in control, but it is another thing to recognize that God became one of us.

The transfiguration of Jesus was not a change into something new, but rather an uncovering of Who Jesus really is!

Like a butterfly inside a cocoon ….Gods glory is reviled.

What those disciple saw has answered many questions that we have today and I believe that’s why Jesus toke them to that high mountain.

We are going to look at some of these questions and answers today.

1. Who is Jesus? When that glory was revealed ..who was it?

Answer: in

Mt 16:13 , he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Mt 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

Mt 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Mt 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Mt 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

When Christ saves us He makes Himself real to us.

It begins a relationship that last for eternity.

The story of the blind man that Jesus healed found in John chapter 9 …Jesus answers who He is without leaving any doubt or any cross-examining to do.

Joh 9:35 when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

Joh 9:36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?

Joh 9:37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

Joh 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him

Is this to represent the coming Kingdom of the 1000 year rain?

Answer: yes. In

Mt 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

That was what Jesus was talking about in that verse. He was doing what you might say a dress rehearsal of His glory and giving those 3 disciples a glimpse into future and see just a taste of why He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords

3. Why Moses and Elias?

Answer: Moses represented the law…the 10 commandments that man could never follow…but Jesus did…He walk this Earth sinless and a spotless sacrifice for all of mankind.

Elias represented the prophets meaning the prophesying of the coming of Christ the Saviour of the world

4. Will we know each other when we get to Heaven?

Answer: yes

No one told the disciples who the 2 was with Jesus…but they knew them.

Moses had died approximately 1400 years before this event took place, and Elijah had been taken up to heaven about 850 years earlier.

That means that we wont have to introduce ourselves to everybody…we will know them and they will know us.

We will recognize Apostle Paul, Peter……we will recognize Moses, Elias.

We will know all of those who ask Christ into their heart.

But most of all we will know Jesus …the same one that Peter, James and John saw on that mountain…in all His glory.

1john 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

For those that would have a hard time believing what those disciples saw …..Peter wrote in

2pe 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

2pe 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

2pe 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

And John wrote in:

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
