Summary: Jesus can "touch" our lives and make us whole
Touch
Mark 5: 21 – 43
Intro: “How can you claim to have all these injuries?” asked the insurance company’s lawyer. “According to the police report, you said you were not hurt.” The New Yorker. “After the accident I was lying on the road in a lot of pain, and I heard someone say the horse had a broken leg. The next thing I know the Texas Ranger pulls out his gun and shoots the horse. Then he turns to me with his gun still in his hand and asks, “Are you okay?”(Reader’s Digest, July, 1994, p. 64)
I. That’s what you call in incentive for healing to take place immediately.
A Mark write about 2 healing miracles: Jairus’ daughter and unnamed woman.
B Similarities: female, regarded as daughters, both healed my touch.
C Number 12 symbolizes the divine presence.
II What does it mean to be healed? Both have happy endings; but, our prayers don’t always result in the answer we desire.
A Pray for healing that doesn’t come. Pray for something you desperately need but it doesn’t come. Does prayer really work?
B Every prayer answered: Yes, No, Not yet or you’ve got to be kidding!
C Healing can come as peace and acceptance in the face of disappointment.
III With just a touch, Jesus heals both people.
A VS 6 – “Daughter, your faith has healed you.” She had the ability all along to be saved (GK. Sothe – to be saved.)
B VS 41 – Talitha Koumi – “He took her by the hand, Little Girl, I say to you, get up”
C Both are healed by the presence of Jesus. He touched them.
Concl: In our suffering and pain, Jesus can touch us; but, we fail to lean on Him for strength, we fail to recognize his touch. Christ did not come to do away with suffering; He did not come to explain it; He came to touch our lives with His presence and make us truly whole.
