To Do the Will of Him who Sent Me…
John 6:38 NLT
This is Destiny’ 9th year as a local church. Every year at this time I start asking myself the question; “Why do we exist as a church?
It is always imperative to keep a clear picture in front of you as to why you do what you do.
If you don’t, you will lose your passion, vision, & motivation to keep doing it with excellence.
Proverbs 29:18a KJV Where there is no vision, the people perish:
ASV Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint;
Have you not heard most every person who becomes a Christian make the statement; “I just want to do the Will of God…”
That is noble; but we better start figuring out what that really is & make sure that is what we are giving the best of our life to.
Every local church is really only the people that come together at that particular location to do the Will of Him Who Sent Us…
I. Jesus Came to be the Example for Us…
John 6:38 NLT For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.
What did that mean exactly?
2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Jesus had to come to live as the prime example that it is possible for a flesh person to live their life self-less so that a greater purpose can be fulfilled.
Jesus knew back then that the numbers where extreme with lost people… He also knows that today there is somewhere around 4.7 billion.
How concerned do you think HIS heart is for HIS local church to reach their part of this group of people?
2 Peter 3:9 CEV The Lord isn't slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.
Jesus heart is showing us what the Will of the Father is.
II. He is not here now…The Will of the Father is still critical!
John 17:17-19 NCV Make them ready for your service through your truth; your teaching is truth.18 I have sent them into the world, just as you sent me into the world. 19 For their sake, I am making myself ready to serve so that they can be ready for their service of the truth.
The local church is His body in the earth now. He established the church so that we would follow His example & continue what He did until He comes again.
John 14:12-14 NLT “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
Many times we use these different scriptures to stand for a need we have personally or for our immediate family.
But look at the context of what the Word is really looking at when you rightly divide it according to the Will of the Father…
2 Peter 3:9b CEV In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.
The Will of the Father in our lives is that we have been sent to use our lives to seek out & rescue lost people that they would not die lost without God.
The things that our heavenly Father really wants to hear us crying out for, asking anything in His name & He will do it… is ideas, insights, & concepts of how to be more fruitful at bringing more people into relationship with Him.
Why would I be expected to do that??? Because we have all been sent by Him for that purpose.
III. Go therefore…
Matthew 28:18-20 NLT Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
I don’t think He means me…my husband, my pastor, or my youth pastor or small group leader is who has been set to do that.
