Tithing is not just about giving money to the church, but it's about trust, obedience, and joy, and God promises to bless us abundantly when we trust Him with our finances.
Good morning, family. Today, we're going to dive into a topic that hits close to home for most of us: tithing. Now, I know what you're thinking—tithing, really? Isn't that just about giving money to the church? Well, yes and no. It's about so much more than just handing over a portion of your paycheck. You see, tithing is about trust, obedience, and most importantly, joy. It's about understanding God's provision and our role within it.
The blessing of tithing is not just about the monetary aspect, but it's about the spiritual blessings that come with it. When we tithe, we are acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. We are recognizing His sovereignty over our lives and our finances. It's a way of saying, "God, I trust you with everything, including my finances." This act of faith opens the door for God's blessings to flow into our lives.
Proverbs 3:9-10: "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." This is a clear promise from God that when we honor Him with our wealth and with the firstfruits of our labor, He will bless us abundantly.
Not just material: Yes, God promises to provide for our needs and even to bless us abundantly, but there's more to it than that. When we tithe, we are also blessed with peace of mind and heart. We are freed from the love of money, which the Bible says is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). When we give generously, we are releasing our grip on material possessions and learning to trust God to provide for our needs. This brings a sense of peace and contentment that is far more valuable than any material wealth.
Spiritual blessings: It draws us closer to God as we learn to depend on Him for our needs. It also helps us to grow in our faith as we see God's faithfulness in providing for us. Tithing is an act of worship, a way of giving back to God a portion of what He has given us. And as we worship God with our tithes, we are blessed with a deeper relationship with Him.
Extends to our community: When we tithe, we are contributing to the work of the church and helping to meet the needs of others. This not only blesses those who are in need, but it also blesses us as we have the joy of being used by God to bless others.
The book of Acts: We see the early church practicing this principle. They sold their possessions and goods and gave to anyone who had need (Acts 2:45). As a result, the church grew rapidly, and there was a sense of unity and love among the believers. This is a beautiful picture of the blessings that come when we give generously.
