Explores the profound, global love of God, and the promise of eternal life through belief in Jesus Christ.

Introduction

Beloved, it is a joy and a blessing to gather with you today, in the house of our Lord. We are convened here, not by chance, but by divine appointment. Our hearts are linked by the golden chains of God's love, our souls are interconnected by the threads of His grace. Today, we are going to look at a verse that is so familiar, so deeply ingrained in our hearts, that it feels like a dear old friend. We are going to look at John 3:16.

But before we do, let's remember the words of Henry Drummond who once said, "Where love is, God is." And so, let’s look live in love and let it guide our steps and light our path. And in this living, in this breathing, we find comfort, hope, and an enduring love that surpasses all understanding.

God's Grand Gift

When we consider the magnitude of God's gift, we are often left in awe. This gift, the gift of His one and only Son, is not just grand, it's incomprehensible. It's a gift that goes beyond our human understanding, beyond our earthly comprehension. It's a gift that transcends time, space, and all human limitations. It's a gift that is eternal, infinite, and divine.

Its origin: This gift comes from God, the Creator of the universe, the Maker of heaven and earth. This is the same God who spoke the world into existence, who set the stars in the sky, who knows the number of hairs on our head. This is a God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present. And yet, this same God chose to give us a gift. Not because we deserved it, not because we earned it, but simply because He loves us.

Its cost: This gift cost God His one and only Son. This is a cost that we can hardly fathom. How can we, as finite beings, comprehend the cost of giving up an only Son? How can we understand the pain, the sacrifice, the love that such a gift requires? We can't. And yet, God chose to pay this cost. He chose to give up His Son, to allow Him to be crucified, to bear the weight of our sins, so that we could be saved.

Its purpose: This gift was given so that we could have eternal life. This is not a temporary gift, not a fleeting gift, but a gift that lasts forever. This is a gift that transcends our earthly existence, that goes beyond our physical death, that carries us into eternity. This is a gift that promises us a place in heaven, a place in the presence of God, a place of joy, peace, and love.

Its availability: This gift is available to everyone. It's not limited to a select few, it's not restricted to a certain group, it's not confined to a specific race or nationality. This gift is available to all who believe in Jesus. It's available to the young and the old, the rich and the poor, the sinner and the saint. It's available to you, to me, to everyone.
