Time For Some First Century Action
Contributed by Dr. Ronald Shultz on Dec 17, 2020 (message contributor)
Summary: You cannot have what they had in the 1st Century if you are not willing to receive what they had and act with it.
Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
I wonder what our spiritual life would be like if we met everyday like the early church. They did not have all the distractions we have and they made God the main priority. Even after working a twelve hour day in the fields they met for a meal and a sermon that sometimes lasted until midnight. They had His power and His presence.
We show up at best four hours a week, but many make it one hour a week or every couple of weeks. Others have traded the real church service for a digital one. There is power when the Body is bodily present. They belong to the invisible church, they say.
I would love to see 24/7 church. Three shifts so that no one can say well I work on Sunday and Wednesday or I get off work at 8 AM on Sunday and I am tired. You will not go to bed for a couple of hours anyway because you will have to wind down. Wind down with God and the Body. You did not work twelve hours in a field.
If some pastors would lead their people to a larger church and be willing to work the second and third shift we could make that happen. There would be a fresh pastor on call in the middle of the night or at 11PM rather than a tired one that was just awaken or about to lay down his head.
When God becomes more important than sports and entertainment the desire to meet more often will happen. When people had less stuff to distract them or separate them from Church and often God as well they had evangelistic meetings and revivals that lasted weeks at a time. They could not wait to get to the next night's service.
Almost they attained to the 1st Century experience. We want Holy Ghost power as long as It can come once a week in the first 15 minutes after the song service. We want the Book of Acts, but we do not want to do what they did or experience the pain that came with the power.
We eat physical food when we are not really hungry and yet we have to be spoon fed and cajoled to eat Spiritual food. We will go to work six to seven days a week to be with people who may hate us for a few bucks after taxes, but will neglect the assembly of believers and receiving true wealth He promises us.
Ezekiel 18:25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
Ezekiel 18:29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
We fuss at God when we do not get what we want or He does not perform in some way we want. Yet, we do not perform as He requires. Attending church is the simplest of commands. Indeed, maybe the easiest of them all. He is consistent when we are not. If you cannot do he simple, the more complex will be impossible.
If the Spirit is in control, you will hunger for the fellowship of the Body. He brings unity and bonding among the Body, The division we see even among those of like faith is not of the Spirit but rather the decree of men and sins of the flesh.
Oh, that we really would return to the 1st Century power by returning to the acts of Acts! Maranatha!
