Summary: THIRSTING FOR GOD

THIRSTING FOR GOD

(NLT)Psalm 42: 1-2 - As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?

(NLT) Psalm 63: 1-5 - O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.

David Thirsted for God like a deer running or fleeing from his hunter or As a deer panteth after a drink of water. He knows if he can get to the water he will be refreshed and can escape for his life, but if he didn’t he was going to die! We need to thirst for God like that today!

David Thirsted for God like a man in the desert searching for water!

I love the story about the young man who went to the preacher searching for God. After much talk the preacher was not having any success – finally he thought and took the young man down to the river grab him and put his head under the water – the young man began to squirm and try his best to come up for air but the preacher held him under – finally lifting his head up out of the water – The preacher asked, Son when you were under the water what did you want more than anything? The young man said Air, Air, Air….. And the preacher said, Son when you want God as bad as you wanted air, You will find Him!

WE NEED TO THIRST FOR GOD LIKE A DROWNING MAN NEEDS AIR.

Jesus said in Mt. 5:6 – Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled

I Cor. 16:15 – They have addicted themselves to Jesus! We need to be addicted to Jesus – Like drugs or alcohol or sports……….. I’VE GOT TO HAVE IT! I’VE GOT TO HAVE IT! I’VE GOT TO HAVE IT!

ENOCH THRIST FOR GOD – GENESIS 5:24 – ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD OR ENOCH THRISTED FOR GOD - And was not for God took him Walking is a continue forward movement – In our Christian life we are to keep our eyes on Jesus (Heb. 12:20) – No matter what keep your eyes on Jesus Thrist for Jesus - Don’t let nothing gets your eyes off of Jesus - You keep walking towards Jesus, until one day you see him face to face!

MOSES THIRST FOR GOD – EXODUS 33:18 – SHOW ME YOUR GLORY!

ELIJAH THRIST FOR GOD – II KINGS 2:11 – A fiery Chariot came down out of heaven and took him away

ELISHA THIRST FOR GOD – II KINGS 2:9 – GIVE ME A DOUBLE PORTION! Elijah performed 7 miracles – Elisha did 14 miracles!

Elisha had the power of God on his life! Think of this power – they were burying a man and they let the man down the grave of Elisha and the man touched the bones of Elisha and revived! (II Ki. 13:21)

THIRSTING FOR GOD WILL BRING POWER TO YOUR LIFE! What is the difference in power and strength – Goliath had strength, David had power!

JACOB THRIST FOR GOD – Genesis 32: 24-29 – Jacob wrestled with an angel all night crying - BLESS ME! He wrestled until his leg was out of joint – finally Jacob quit wrestling and started clinging – The angel said what is your name and He said Jacob!

Quit fighting God and start clinging – Quit fighting him and start seeking Him! Jacob went to be blessed and got changed!

Note Vs. 28 – Thy name shall be called no more Jacob but Israel: For as a prince hast thou power with God and with men and hast prevailed!

ARE YOU THIRSTY FOR GOD?
