THINGS YOU CAN’T BUY

I Corinthians 6:19-20

Introduction;

The text tells us that a price has been paid.

That we have been purchased, a slave being purchased at the auction block in no longer his/her own, but to the one who has paid the highest cost.

We can look back into the Story of Hosea and Gommer, and see that Gommer had returned to her former lovers. And God sent Hosea back to town to get her. No matter what, just go get her. Hosea became the highest bidder for Gommer and then he taken possession of her again. Showing his unconditional love for her, in spite of all that I have done wrong, Christ shows us his unconditional love for us.

As we look here at the text (19) we can clearly see that we are no longer our own, but now we belong unto God.

The word “price” means….a set amount to be paid for such an item.

>Most items we purchase, we pay more then they are worth.

Look at a car, we pay 20,000 for it, and two (2) years later it’s worth 12-13,000.00

Items we pay full price for just a year ago, we are willing to sell for anything in a yard sale just to see it go………………………..**Yard sale bags stuffed for a 1.00**

>In total contrast, we were sold at a far above fair market value price.

A Price Higher then we were worth, greater then all animal sacrifices, or worldly possessions.

**Tigers that were just killed in San Francisco**

Hebrews 9:12 says…

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Jesus paid the HIGHEST price that could have been paid.

The Blood of Christ is far above fair market value.

Think about this….

Of all the wealth and riches untold of the Father, the cost for our souls was the blood of His own Son. God who owns it all, gave the payment, His only begotten Son.

~Who else could afford that?

~Who else could have paid that price?

~We are that valuable to Him.

>When the devil comes to tempt us, remind him that the price that has been paid, he can’t afford

you.

>Church I tell you today, we cost a lot, we are priceless!

~Do you remember the story in I Kings 21 of Naboth and his vineyard, and that Ahab wanted to

buy it from him. I Kings 21

Vv. 2-3 says…

And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

>He is telling King Ahab “I’m Not For Sale”

Vv. 5-6 says…

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread? And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

>He is telling both Ahab and Jezebel……..”I’m Not For Sale”

>We need to tell the devil plainly, we are Not For Sale

**Let’s look at some things that are not for sale**

1. THE CHURCH

Eaton’s Bible Dictionary says…

The word “church” is derived probably from the Greek kuriakon ("the Lord’s house")

I Timothy 3:14-16 says…

14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: 15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

>Key verse here is #15

The Text refers to the Church as the…

1. The Household of God.

Ephesians 2:19-20 says…

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

2. The Church or Assembly of the Living God.

3. The Pillar and Ground of Truth. Vv. 16
