Intro: Romans 1:15—Paul states he was eager to preach the cross. Everywhere he went his message included the cross. Why was he so persistent in preaching this subject? Today we find why he was so excited about the cross by looking at what was nailed to the cross.

Nailing it to His Cross

I. Sin-2 Corinthians 5:21—he became sin, who knew no sin. One of the amazing facts about the cross is that sin was nailed to it. Not just one sin, but sin itself. Paul loved to preach the cross because he saw sin defeated there. It wasn’t that Jesus just died for the sins of the world, but he took sin, carried it up Mount Calvary, and nailed it to His cross.

II. The Curse—Galatians 3:13-14-because it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. Jesus became a curse so that we might become a blessing. What man lost in the garden through the first Adam, Jesus erased it by nailing it to His cross.

III. Fear—Hebrews 2:14-15—who all their lives were subject to fear. Man was bound by fear because it seemed that the judgment of God was going to be severe against man. But Jesus nailed that fear to the cross and now we no longer have the spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. Perfect love has cast out fear. David in seeing the cross states the Lord delivered him from all his fears.

IV. Death—Romans 6:4, 8-9—Paul loved to preach the cross because it was the place death was defeated. At the cross we are united with him in death, and raised with him in glory (Colossians 2:12) Death is swallowed up in victory. Paul states in 2 Timothy 1:10—Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality. Death wasn’t defeated when Jesus came out of the grave, death was already defeated at the cross. Before He came out of the grave, he that ascended first descended and gained the keys over hell, death and the grave.

V. Enmity, separation, isolation—Ephesians 2:13-18 you who were afar off are made near—In Matthew 27:51-the rending of the curtain signifies Jesus breaking down our separation from God.

· Full atonement had been made—Hebrews 10:19-20

· Jesus goes as a forerunner into the most holy place into the presence of God. Hebrews 9:12, 24

· Christ is our mediator standing before God on our behalf- Hebrews 7:23-24

· Saints now have access and the favor of God through Jesus Christ—Romans 5:2, Ephesians 2:18, 3:12, Hebrews 4:16 states we now can boldly approach the throne of God.

VI. Defeat, Faults and Failures—Jesus nailed all our defeats and failures to the cross. We are made the righteousness of Christ. We walk in victory, and thanks be unto God who gives us the victory (I Corinthians 15:57), who always causes us to triumph in Christ-2 Corinthians 2:14.

John 10:10 –the thief comes to kill, steal and destroy, but I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.

VII. Satan’s Dominion and Authority—

I Corinthians 2:8—the devil’s dumbest move is explained here. Paul loves that Satan’s hatred of Jesus Christ caused him to make the way of man regaining the lost authority of the garden.

Colossians 2:15-Jesus disarmed the principalities and powers and made a public example of them, triumphing over them. This is the great news of the cross, what man lost, Jesus regained, and gave the authority back to us.

Genesis—3:15- you will bruise his heal, but he will crush your head. Jesus was wounded for our transgressions, but Satan was crushed by the cross. Romans 16:20—Paul states—Jesus will crush Satan under your feet shortly.

Close: even though the cross is foolishness to the Greek, and a stumblingblock to the Jews, to us that are being saved, it is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

There is room at the cross for you, room at the cross for you, though millions have come, there is still room for one, there is room at the cross for you.
