They Saw Much When They Saw Nothing

Text: Luke 24:1-12

When the disciples were with Jesus, it seemed as if everything Jesus said to them went in one ear and right out the other. They never quite seemed to "get it" when Jesus was alive.

They never understood about His Kingdom until after He was dead. So many times He told them things and the Bible says, "And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken."

Even after Peter saw the empty tomb, the Bible says in Luke 24:12 that he was "wondering in himself at that which was come to pass."

But, even as they looked into the empty tomb, "When They Saw Nothing, They Saw Much."

They saw:

I. Prophecies Fulfilled

Isaiah 53

Luke 9:22 - Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

II. Promises Forthcoming

John 2:19 - Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

Luke 23:42-43 - And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

John 14:1-6 - Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 - For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Revelation 21:3-5 - And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

III. Purpose For Living

Matthew 28:18-20 - And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the So, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

John 20:21 - Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
