THE WORTH OF A GODLY MOTHER

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

INTRODUCTION:

Mother’s Day is a special time set aside to honour and celebrate the invaluable role of mothers in our families, churches, and society. A godly mother is more than just a caregiver; she is a nurturer, teacher, intercessor, and a vessel of divine wisdom and strength. Her love is sacrificial, her prayers are powerful, and her presence is irreplaceable.

From the pages of Scripture to our everyday lives, we see the profound impact of godly mothers. They raise children in the fear of the Lord, build homes with wisdom, and model Christ-like character. The Bible honours women like Hannah, Ruth, Elizabeth, and Mary—mothers whose faith shaped generations.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us reflect on the high calling and honour God has placed on motherhood. Let us also be challenged to support and pray for mothers everywhere, that they may continue to fulfil their divine mandate with grace and strength.

1. A GODLY MOTHER FEARS THE LORD

a) Reverence for God: The fear of the Lord is the foundation of her life and parenting (Proverbs 31:30).

b) Submits to God's Will: She seeks God's guidance in raising her children (Psalm 111:10).

c) Influences Her Household: Her faith sets the spiritual tone for her home (2 Timothy 1:5).

d) Her Life Inspires Worship: Her devotion inspires others to trust and serve the Lord.

Biblical Example: Hannah feared God and dedicated her son Samuel to His service (1 Samuel 1:27-28).

2. A GODLY MOTHER BUILDS HER HOME WITH WISDOM

a) Foundation of Truth: She teaches her children God’s Word (Proverbs 1:8-9).

b) Wise in Speech and Action: She speaks with kindness and acts with purpose (Proverbs 31:26).

c) Establishes Order: Her diligence keeps the home in harmony (Titus 2:4-5).

d) She Plans Ahead: She is not idle or wasteful but prudent and prepared.

Biblical Example: The Proverbs 31 woman exemplifies a wise, industrious mother and homemaker.

3. A GODLY MOTHER INTERCEDES FOR HER FAMILY

a) Prays for Her Children: She brings her family before God regularly (Job 1:5).

b) Battles in the Spirit: She does not give up on her children, even in tough times (Isaiah 66:13).

c) Seeks God's Protection: Her prayers shield her household from evil.

d) Partners with Heaven: She calls forth the destinies of her children through prayer.

Biblical Example: The Syrophoenician woman interceded persistently for her daughter’s healing (Mark 7:25-30).

4. A GODLY MOTHER SACRIFICES IN LOVE

a) Gives Without Reserve: She puts her children’s needs before her own (1 Thessalonians 2:7).

b) Works Tirelessly: She gives her time, energy, and attention sacrificially.

c) Her Love Mirrors Christ's: Her nurturing reflects God’s heart.

d) Her Sacrifice Shapes Generations: She sows seeds that impact eternity.

Biblical Example: Jochebed, the mother of Moses, risked her life to preserve his (Exodus 2:1-10).

5. A GODLY MOTHER RECEIVES HONOUR AND REWARD

a) Her Children Celebrate Her: Her legacy commands respect and gratitude (Proverbs 31:28).

b) Her Husband Praises Her: Her faithfulness does not go unnoticed.

c) God Rewards Her Faith: She reaps the fruit of her labour.

d) Her Legacy Endures: Her name lives on through her children.

Biblical Example: Mary, the mother of Jesus, was called blessed among women for generations (Luke 1:48).

CONCLUSION:

Godly mothers are priceless gifts to families and society. Their roles are divine and their labour is eternal. As we honour mothers today, may we also recommit to supporting them in prayer, love, and appreciation. Let every mother here know that heaven celebrates your sacrifice and heaven records your impact.

May God raise more women of virtue, prayer, and purpose who will continue to raise godly generations and influence nations through their wombs and wisdom.
