The Word of God

January 5, 2020

There is power in our priorities.

Our habits form us.

Hebrews 4:12-13

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

The Word of God is Alive

“Living and Active” – Not only is it alive, but it’s on the move!

2 Timothy 3:16 NIV

“All Scripture is God-breathed …”

The Word of God Changes Us

It penetrates and judges every thought and every attitude.

How do we know if our thoughts and attitudes are honoring God? We hold them up to the Word of God!

Psalms 119:9-11 NIV

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart;

do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

The Word of God Protects Us

Matthew 4:1-4 NIV

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

Jesus fell is love with the word of God before the temptation so that obedience was natural in the middle of temptation.

Ephesians 6:16-17 NIV

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

We read Scripture to know God and to be formed into his people.

The Table:

John 6:63 NIV

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.
