1 John 2:6
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
1 Peter 2:21
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
His manner of life was:
• Simple
• Sincere
• Godly
We know of at least 10 places Jesus walked:
1. Nazareth – His boyhood home
As an adult, he returns to Nazareth and proclaims:
Luke 4:18-19
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
2. Caesarea Philippi
Here Jesus said to Peter
Matthew 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
3. Cana of Galilee
Jesus’ first public miracle – at the marriage, He turns water into wine.
4. Capernaum
No other place besides Jerusalem saw more miracles as did Capernaum
5. Sea of Galilee
• Causes a miraculous draught of fishes.
• Calms the tempest.
6. Bethlehem
The city of His birth. We don’t know how long He live here, probably a very short time.
7. The Jerusalem Temple
• He was dedicated in the Temple by His parents in Luke 2
• At 12 years of age, He was debating the scholars of His day
8. Jordan River
Here, He was baptized by John the Baptist.
9. Bethany
Bethany, located on the eastern side of Mount of Olives, was the hometown of Mary, Martha and Lazarus.
Here – He raised Lazarus from the dead.
10. Bethesda
HOW DID JESUS CHRIST WALK?
1. THE AIM OF HIS WALK
John 8:29
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
The Will of God was the end and aim of His whole life.
The successful people who take AIM
• Have a goal in mind
• Believe that their goal is the most important thing in their life
• They eliminate THINGS in their life that are not wrong to allow them to focus on their AIM.
• They eliminate PEOPLE that are opposed to their AIM.
• They eliminate ENTERTAINMENT that is disruptive to their AIM.
Luke 22:42
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
John 4:34
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John 5:30
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
John 6:38
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
2. THE PRINCIPLE OF HIS WALK
He walked in the path of DEPENDENCE and OBEDIENCE.
He could of Himself DO NOTHING.
At a very early age – Jesus said to His parents
Luke 2:49
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
In the Garden of Gethsemane
Luke 22:42
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
NOT HIS WILL – BUT HIS FATHER’S
3. THE POWER OF HIS WALK
The Holy Spirt was His power
He was:
• Conceived by the Holy Spirit
• Anointed by the Spirit
• Led by the Spirit
• Empowered by the Spirit
4. THE AUTHORITY AND GUIDE OF HIS WALK.
The Scriptures were His guide and He tried to guide others with them.
Statements Jesus said about the scriptures:
• What saith the scriptures?
• How readest thou?
• Have you not read?
• What is written in the Law?
• Search the Scriptures
• Thou knowest the scriptures
When tempted by Satan, He said:
“It is written” 4 times in Mt. 4 alone.
5. THE DEPENDANCE OF HIS WALK
Prayer is dependence on God!
In the book of Luke – Jesus prayed seven times.
He taught three parables about prayer:
• The Pharisee and the Publican
• The Friend at Midnight
• The Importunate Widow and Unjust Judge
He PRAYED:
• On special occasions
• During demanding seasons
• Before choosing the Apostles
• In concert with others
• When in need
• When in pain
