The Wolf And The Lamb Together

Summary: If Christ can make the wolf lie down with the lamb, He can reconcile your broken relationships, tame the predator of sin in your life, and give you the peace that passes all understanding.
The Wolf and the Lamb Together
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” (Isa 11:6)
“The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 65:25)
I. The Prophecy of Peace in Isaiah
Isaiah saw beyond the brokenness of this fallen world into the coming Kingdom reign of Christ. What seems impossible to human reason—predator and prey coexisting in harmony—is a divine promise.
Understand, This is not mere allegory. Scripture places it in the context of the Millennial reign of Christ, when He restores creation to its original order.
Genesis 1:29–30 – In the beginning, all creatures were herbivores:
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed… to every beast of the earth… every green herb for meat: and it was so.”
God’s ideal design was peace, not preying or attacking.
Sin corrupted that design, but prophecy assures us God will restore it.
II. The Fall and the Curse That Changed Creation
Romans 5:12 – “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”
The entrance of sin not only marred man but also scarred creation.
Animals became hostile; death became universal.
Even man was permitted to eat meat only after the Flood:
Genesis 9:3 – “Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.”
(Illustration) Teeth and claws, originally meant for digging and tearing plants, became weapons of survival.
What God intended for life was twisted by sin into instruments of death.
III. The Coming Kingdom of Christ Restores Harmony
Isaiah’s prophecy of the wolf dwelling with the lamb points us forward to the Millennial reign of Christ — a thousand-year period following His second coming when He will rule in righteousness and restore the world to peace.
1. Christ’s Reign on Earth – Revelation 20:4 “And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” Zechariah 14:9 – “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.”
2. A World at Peace – Isaiah 2:4 – “And they shall beat their swords into plowshares… nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”
Political, racial, and social divisions will end under Christ.
3. Creation Restored – Romans 8:21–22 – creation groans but will be delivered.
Isaiah 35:1 – deserts will bloom, nature will rejoice.
4. Justice and Righteousness Established – Isaiah 11:4–5 – Christ will judge with righteousness and equity.
His reign will have no corruption, no injustice, no oppression.
5. Satan Bound – Revelation 20:1–2 – Satan bound for a thousand years.
With the deceiver silenced, peace will prevail.
6. The Nations Worship the King – Zechariah 14:16 – nations will go up to worship the King in Jerusalem.
The world will experience unity in worship under Christ.
III-A. Living as Citizens of Christ’s Kingdom Today
Though the Millennium is future, it calls us to live differently now.
1. The Kingdom Is Already Within Us – Luke 17:20–21 – “The kingdom of God cometh not with observation… for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”
When we submit to Christ, His rule begins in our hearts.
2. Citizens of Heaven on Earth – Philippians 3:20 – “For our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven…” Our lives should already reflect Kingdom values.
3. Living in Peace Now – Ephesians 2:14 – “For he is our peace, who hath made both one…” If Christ can reconcile Jews and Gentiles, He can reconcile us with each other today.
(Light-Hearted Illustration) Two church members were known for never getting along. One day a child overheard them talking kindly and laughing together in the fellowship hall and ran to his mother: “Mama! Mama! The wolf and the lamb are playing together — and they’re both in our church!” Everyone chuckles at the thought, but isn’t that what Jesus does? He takes people who used to snap at each other and, by His Spirit, teaches them to love, forgive, and live in peace.
4. Holiness as Kingdom People – 2 Peter 3:11–13 – We look for a new heaven and earth where righteousness dwells, so we live holy now.
5. Hope That Sustains Us – Titus 2:13 – “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of… our Saviour Jesus Christ.” Our hope in the Millennium strengthens us to endure present trials.
