The Well Of The Bride Series

Intro: This story is rich in Sermons! We could preach on the Will of the Father, the Servant seeking the Bride, or the Son, but tonight I want look at the practical, not the typical aspect of the story. Rebekah is an Old Testament picture of the church or the Bride of Christ. As we see what really happened, there is great application to the church today.

Isa 12:2 "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. 3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation."

I. The Commission of the Father - vs. 1-9

A. Go get a Bride for my Son.

B. The Bride must leave Idolatry and come to the Son! (Repentance)

We must never take for granted, that though we must accept salvation, God came to and for us!

II. The Comfort of the Seeker - Eliezar - name means “God is help”

The Holy Spirit - called the Comforter, the Paraklete, the one along side, the one that HELPS!

A. The Servant was the Seeker.

B. The Servant settled by the well - Water.

The servant is not named, but Genesis 15:2 names the steward of Abraham. His name was Eliezar. He did the right thing. He needed direction! How would you like to pick out your boss's son's bride! BUT HE PRAYED! - vs. 12

III. The Camels of Grace - vs. 10-14 GRACE APPEARED

(Ten is a number of completion) - vs. 10-11

A. They Revealed the Provision of the Father - Ten Camels - this was not all he had, but it represented all the Father had!

-Noah was the tenth generation - completed the age before the flood.

-Ten Plagues - the complete judgment of God

-Ten Commandments - the complete Law

-The Tithe - represents the submission to the complete ownership of God

Ten is a number that represents the WHOLE.

1. The Sufficiency - - Ten Camels - he did not need that many!

It showed the Ability of the Father - He was wealthy! She saw the Camels, and they were beyond her imagination!

2. The Settling - The Servant made them to kneel down!

He was not in a hurry, but would be patient to find the Bride. There was not threat of danger

3. The Separation - out of the daughters of men, would come a bride!

She would separate herself, and be taken to the Son.

B. They Represented the Pathway to the Son - The Safety to the Son

The Servant came seeking the Bride, but the Camels would take her HOME!

1. Safely travel across the rough Terrain.

2. Safely travel through the Storms. They would take her home!

IV. The Compliance of the Bride - now we know that salvation is not by works, and we must not over state the types, or pictures in the Scripture. At the same time, genuine salvation will be accompanied by service. The service here was not her means of salvation, but merely identified her! We are not saved by works, but we can be identified by works.

A. A Requirement was set forth - vs. 14

1. Unusual - not for a man to ask for water, but to expect anyone to water your animals - (not just one either, TEN OF THEM)

2. Unfair - Eleazar did not lift a finger! Eleazar did not even brag on her, or motivate her. Vs. 21

3. Uninteresting - Who wants to water camels, there is no glamor in that!

Eph 6:6 "Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:"

B. The Response that was Surprising - vs. 15-20

1. Unprompted - she was not asked. She was not asked, coaxed, begged, or even prompted!

2. Unhesitating - She saw the need! - vs. 19

3. Unfaltering - 19-20 Commitment (until they have done drinking! - vs. 19)

- She hastened to get the job done! - vs. 20

C. The Reward - vs. 22

1. It was Unknown - He never offered, it was a reward after the fact!

It is yet to be seen what God will do for His faithful followers! Story after story could be told.

2. It was Unbelievable - 4and ½ ounces of gold = today's value $1200 per ounce - $5400!

3. It would be Unchanging - Her greatest reward was yet to come.

Concl. Many Christians have dehydrated lives because they have never come to the well of the heart of service. It is all about heart!
