Preach Christmas week
This sermon explores Jesus' divine identity, His purpose as our mediator, and His magnificent impact on our lives, guiding us towards a deeper relationship with God.
Good morning, family of faith. It is a blessing to be gathered here today, united in spirit and purpose, to reflect on the Word of God and its transformative power in our lives. Today, we turn our hearts and minds towards a profound passage from the Bible, a passage that carries within its words the very essence of our faith, the very reason for our hope, and the very source of our love.
The passage we are going to meditate upon today is from the Gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 6. It reads, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" These words, spoken by our Savior, paint a vivid picture of His divine identity, His purpose, and His glory.
Our sermon today will focus on three main points derived from this passage: the Manifestation of the Messiah, the Mission of the Mediator, and the Magnificence of the Master. Each point will guide us to a deeper understanding of who Jesus is, what His mission entails, and how His magnificence impacts our lives.
As we prepare to delve into these truths, let us remember the wise words of J.I. Packer, a respected Christian theologian, who once said, "Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord." This quote reminds us that our primary purpose in life is to know God, to understand His character, and to live in relationship with Him. As we study today's passage, let us keep this truth at the forefront of our minds.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word, which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We pray that as we delve into Your Word today, You would open our hearts and minds to understand the truths You have for us. Help us to see Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life, and to respond to Him with faith and obedience. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
So, let's begin. Let's open our hearts and minds to the Word of God, and see what He has to say to us today. Let's allow His Word to shape us, to mold us, and to make us more like Him. Let's be open to the Holy Spirit's leading as we meditate on the Manifestation of the Messiah, the Mission of the Mediator, and the Magnificence of the Master. May God speak to us today through His Word, and may we have ears to hear what He has to say.
As we turn our attention to the words of Jesus in John 14:6, we find ourselves standing at the foot of a towering truth. Jesus, in a moment of intimate conversation with His disciples, reveals His divine identity. He says, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life." This is not a mere claim to be a good teacher or a wise prophet. This is a bold declaration of His divine nature and His unique role in God's plan of salvation.
When Jesus says, "I am the way," He is saying that He Himself is the path to God. In a world filled with countless philosophies, religions, and ideologies, Jesus stands alone as the only way to God. This is a radical claim. It is also a comforting truth. It means that we don't have to search for the way or wonder if we're on the right path. Jesus is the way. We simply need to follow Him. But Jesus doesn't stop there.
He also says, "I am the truth." Today, truth is often seen as relative and subjective, Jesus declares that He is the absolute truth. He is the reality behind all realities, the truth behind all truths. He is the standard by which all other truths are measured. This means that we can trust Him. We can rely on His words. We can build our lives on His teachings.
Jesus also says, "I am the life." He is not just talking about physical life, but eternal life. He is saying that He is the source of life, the giver of life, and the sustainer of life. He is the one who gives life meaning and purpose. He is the one who gives us hope in the face of death. This means that we can find life in Him. We can experience true, abundant, eternal life through a relationship with Him. This is the manifestation of the Messiah. This is Jesus revealing Himself to us, showing us who He is, and inviting us to know Him, to trust Him, and to follow Him. But there's more.
When Jesus says, "No one comes to the Father except through me," He is making a profound statement about His role as the mediator between God and humanity. He is saying that He is the only one who can bridge the gap between a holy God and sinful humanity. He is the only one who can reconcile us to God and bring us into a right relationship with Him.
Friends, we can't earn our way to God through good works or religious rituals. We can't reach God through our own efforts or merits. We can only come to God through Jesus. He is our mediator. He is our advocate. He is our bridge to God. This is a humbling truth. You are need or a Savior. You are dependent on Jesus.
This is also an encouraging truth. It assures us that we have a mediator who understands us, who sympathizes with us, and who intercedes for us. It assures us that we have a Savior who loves us, who died for us, and who rose again for us. It assures us that we have a Lord who is with us, who is for us, and who will never leave us nor forsake us. This is the mission of the mediator. This is Jesus fulfilling His role as the bridge between God and humanity, the reconciler of a broken relationship, the Savior of a lost world.
As we turn our attention to the Magnificence of the Master, we find ourselves standing in awe of the Sufficiency of Christ ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
