1. Introduction – The Shock of the First Fall
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we continue walking with Jesus along the sorrowful road to Calvary, we now arrive at the Third Station of the Way of the Cross: Jesus Falls the First Time.
The Cross has just been placed upon His shoulders.
His body has already been wounded by the scourging.
His head bleeds from the crown of thorns.
His strength has been drained by sleeplessness, suffering, and humiliation.
And now, under the weight of the Cross, Jesus falls to the ground.
The Son of God, the One who created the universe, lies on the dusty streets of Jerusalem.
The One who healed the sick
the One who raised the dead
the One who calmed the storm
now falls beneath the weight of the Cross.
This moment shocks us.
Because we usually imagine Jesus as strong, victorious, and powerful.
But here, we see Him weak, wounded, and fallen.
And yet this fall is not a defeat.
It is a revelation of divine love.
Because in this fall, Jesus reveals something very important:
God did not come to save humanity from a distance.
He came to enter our weakness.

2. The Human Reality of the Fall
Every human being understands what it means to fall.
We fall morally.
We fall spiritually.
We fall emotionally.
We fall physically.
Life itself is full of falls.
People fall into:
• sin
• addiction
• discouragement
• despair
• loneliness
• weakness
Some falls are small.
Some falls are devastating.
Some people fall so deeply that they believe they will never rise again.
But when Jesus falls on the road to Calvary, He enters the deepest human experience.
He becomes close to every person who has ever fallen.

3. The Weight of the Cross
Why did Jesus fall?
Because the Cross was heavy.
Not only physically heavy.
But spiritually heavy.
The Cross carried the weight of the sins of the world.
As the prophet foretold:
Isaiah 53:4–5
"He bore our suffering
and carried our sorrows…
He was wounded for our transgressions."
Jesus is not only carrying wood.
He is carrying:
• the pride of humanity
• the hatred of humanity
• the violence of humanity
• the rebellion of humanity
Every sin of every generation is placed upon His shoulders.
And under that immense burden, Jesus falls.

4. The First Fall – A Mirror of Humanity
The first fall of Jesus reflects the first fall of humanity.
In the beginning, God created humanity in holiness and grace.
But humanity fell into sin.
That first fall happened in the garden.
The first fall of Jesus happens on the road to Calvary.
Humanity fell through disobedience.
Jesus falls through obedience.
Humanity fell because of pride.
Jesus falls because of love.
Humanity fell by rejecting God.
Jesus falls while fulfilling the will of the Father.
This is the mystery of redemption.
Where humanity fell, Christ rises.

5. Spiritual Diagnosis – Why Do People Fall?
To understand the Third Station deeply, we must ask a question:
Why do people fall spiritually?
The answer can be found in four common weaknesses.
1. Pride
Pride makes a person believe:
"I do not need God."
But the moment a person separates from God, the fall begins.
2. Temptation
Temptation is constant.
The enemy of souls is always trying to pull people away from God.
3. Weakness of the Flesh
Human nature is fragile.
Even strong people sometimes collapse under pressure.
4. Discouragement
Sometimes people fall not because they are evil,
but because they are exhausted.
Life can become overwhelming.
Jesus understands this.
Because He Himself experienced the exhaustion of suffering.

6. The Compassion of Christ
When Jesus falls, He reveals something beautiful.
He understands the fallen.
Many people think:
"God cannot understand my weakness."
But the Cross says otherwise.
Jesus understands:
• the person who has failed
• the person who has sinned
• the person who feels broken
• the person who feels ashamed
The Letter to the Hebrews tells us:
Hebrews 4:15
"We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses."
Jesus knows the experience of falling.
Therefore, when we fall, we are not alone.
Christ stands beside us.

7. Illustration – A Child Learning to Walk
Imagine a small child learning to walk.
The child stands up.
The child takes a step.
And then falls.
But what does the mother do?
Does she condemn the child?
Does she shout at the child?
No.
She lifts the child with love.
She encourages the child to try again.
The fall is not the end.
