The Walk After The Ride
Contributed by Martin Holland on Apr 9, 2012 (message contributor)
Summary: Jesus after riding into Jerusalem dismounted that colt and began the most difficult walk to Calvary.
The Walk after the Ride
Matt. 26:57-68, 27:1-2, 27-34
The Ride before the Walk:
• He comes in exalted as the King of kings
• He weeps as He sees the eastern gate of Jerusalem beyond the Mount of Olives
• The Temple entry, the Last Supper and beyond would began as He dismounts from the colt.
The walk would be a very difficult one for Jesus clothe in humanity.
Facts: The upper room is less than 200 yards from the house of Caiaphas and about 6 tenths of a mile to the Garden of Gethsemane.
See: Luke 22:39-44 He agonizes in the garden that night before taken upon the betrayal of Judas
The pretrial by Annas, Caiaphas father in law and then to Caiaphas! (ref. John 18:12-14)
There at Caiaphas place Jesus would spend the night till morning in a pit!
Psalms 88:1-10 The words of Jesus perhaps prophesied that night in the pit of Caiaphas house
The Psalms of David and the prophecies Isaiah from 1,000 to 800 B.C are now being fulfilled.
See: Matt. 26:67, 27:30
See: Isaiah 50:6 The spitting and the shame
See: Isaiah 52:14 His visage was so marred more than any man Isaiah tells us
After 6 trials of mockery and scourging his walk would continue to Golgotha “The place of the skull”
This would be almost 2 tenths of a mile bearing a heavy cross in which Simon a man of Cyrene would assist Him.
The Seven cries from the cross: Forgiveness, Salvation to one of the thieves, to His mother “Woman behold thy Son”, My God…, I thirst, It is finished and Father into thy hand I commit my Spirit.
See: Isaiah 53:9 He made his grave with the wicked and with the rich in His death
See: Matt. 27:57 The rich man of Arimathea named Joseph
After three days and nights in what Paul tells us Ephesians 4:9 The lower parts of the earth.
Psalms 16:10 Thou will not leave my soul in hell (sheol or hades)
There are many speculations about where did Jesus go after His death on the cross and I personally do not believe it was the literal place “Hell” the place of torment because He told the thief on the cross today you will be with Me in paradise. His ultimate torment would separation from the Father as He bore our sin on the cross.
Thank the Lord for what would happen later early Sunday morning!
See: Matt. 28:6 He is not here for He is risen
What is so important about this event we call Easter?
1. It Proves the Jesus was who He said He was John 10:30-33 He makest Himself to be God
2. It Provided salvation for every believer See: John 11:25-26
The blood of Jesus as the Lamb of God is applied to the door post of every believer’s heart and the blood of the lamb during the first Passover in Exodus 12 was applied to the door post of each house that would escape the death of the first born.
Mention: John 3:3 Except a man be born again
3. It Paved away for every believer to have access to God See: Matt. 27:51 The veil was rent in twain
See: Hebrews 10:19-22
4. It Prepared the resurrection of all of mankind
See: Matt. 27:52 saints came forth
And: 1 Cor. 15:4-6, 23
See: John 5:25-29 The resurrection unto life and unto damnation
If you do not know Jesus the Christ as your Savior I plead with you to come and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in the finish work of Calvary in Jesus the Christ for it is the only way a person can experience salvation.
